Which oil

Hi everyone,

New owner of a 2006 Wrangler with a 4.0 I6.

Question is what oil and filter is regarded as best for long engine life. In all my other vehicles I am using Mobil 1 and Purolator Pure One filters.

What do you think??

The 4.0 will run on any oil. U don't need syntec at all. Just good Dino oil and regular changes.

Love that inline 4.0. Imo the best engine there is. I ran conventional oil in my 4.0 I6 with no issues, even once going over 9,000 miles between oil changes due to forgetfulness related to a family medical catastrophe Oil looked just fine despite the time and no problems resulted. Not that I would ever recommend doing what I did. In my new 3.6L I run full synthetic. I say do what you're most comfortable with, just maintain that baby well, and it'll likely still be around for the next generation and beyond...

Brad Penn high zinc/phos oil. "The green oil"

I always ran it in my turbo'd race car. As far as lab test go, it is one of the best as far as wear and shear/breakdown protection. Zinc and phos at levels around 1600ppm. It doesn't wear the API symbol so it isn't sold in parts stores but it isn't much more than your basic oil price wise.

Not saying you NEED this oil, I'm just a little overprotective I guess. I started using it when I sank $15k in an engine and just continued to use it since its only about $7 a quart.

Any oil works but the I6 is a flat tappet engine so I use VR1 conventional 10w30 because its a high zinc oil without the high milage stuff mixed in

Key is changing it when it is time too

Read this link showing tests on top oil brands. Vr1 is the best 10w30 oil in the ranks

Quaker State

It's a good read

Wow, no Jerry Bransford?

I use Castrol GTX 10w30 with STP. My one and only oil filter is Wix.

Always and forever full Mobil1. Leave parrafin for candles, not engines. I've replaced too many customers parrafin blown engines to let that stuff anywhere near my 249,000 mile 4.0 I6.
