Why no respect for JK's?

I'm a new jeep owner as of 3 weeks ago, and loving it. I have wanted a jeep for 15 yrs now but couldn't go without a truck(and no funds for both). Now lucky enough to have both I bought a '10 2 door sport "s" soft top. As I read all the post's on this site trying to become as edjucated as possible, it appears that JK's are treated like the stepchild of the Jeep world. Just currious why?

Its not that we don't like JK's its just that 90% of the people driving JK's don't know the Jeep thing, nor respect their jeeps like we do

most of the time, it's all in god fun, but some guys feel like they are "too civilized." the yj's got it when they first cam out and the tj's got it too. it's kind of like a rite of passage. heck, yj's and tj's still get it from each other.

FTW, round lights are where it's at .

Personally I like them but have only gotten the wave back ONCE from a JK in my 9 months of ownership ... most people around here that have JK's are soccer mom's that dont know anything about jeep tradition and the love of the JEEP. ... Yes Jess ... ROUND LIGHTS!! RULE!!

My wife & I have been keeping tabs on the wave. It seems that for some reason Sahara's have the lowest wave return.

I don't disagree with your thought, but your number of 90% is way too high.

Just as an example: I was driving home from school, about to get on the interstate last week... doorless, bikini top. Across from me at the intersection there was a white TJ and a red JK (on my near side) side by side, and as we crossed at the intersection the JK drive stared ahead in oblivion (might as well have been driving a mini van). Top up, windows up, AC blowing I'm sure... The TJ had the top down and rendered a two fingered wave.. FROM ACROSS A MEDIAN ON THE FAR SIDE.. we admired one another's Jeeps in passing.. while the JK driver.. probably a lawyer or mortgage broker or something didn't even glance at either Jeep. If 95% of people don't observe long standing traditions, then how can we form a bond?

This is how Im riding all summer...Its been a while since I had AC. I need to spoil myself a little.
But I have noticed that most JK drivers dont even throw a glance. If the TJ drivers around here dont wave they at least give a look. Long Island is not the best place to get jeep waves. In over 2 years Ive gotten 5 maybe 6 waves. I dont bother anymore unless someone waves first.

I am now the owner of a 2010 jk 4 door. If it wasn't a 4 door, I wouldn't have it (as per the wifey). That being said, when I had a 97 tj I learned the older jeepers don't like new ones. Probably works that way with other things as well. However, I have noticed I get a lot less waves back from JK owners.

Here's what killed the wave, and the reputation of the JK:

THE CREATION OF A 2WD MODEL... plain and simple.. it's like if everyone was allowed to wear a police uniform around town.. you'd have people looking, but not acting like police.. and it breaks down the whole system..

Here in MI we get about a 50% wave return average but being a newbie we initiate most of them. Top down & doors off does increase the %

Did you know that 80% of percentages are made up on spot?

Probably because many JK owners have no respect for the heritage of the brand. It's just their car, not their Jeep.

Many times I am the first to fire the wave, and am usually snubbed, mostly by the older Jeeps.... until they see the hood and then it's like.. WHOOPS>>. I should wave.... does it bother me? Not at all.. life goes on

I personally do not have a problem with them. Its still a Wrangler to me and i would help them if they were on the side of the road. I do not like that NONE of them wave, especially the ones that look at me wave and keep driving. I personally would not drive a JK because I like the I-6 better. I will have to agree that I will always favor the TJ though, but thats just my opinion. Please wave back, it gets annoying sometimes

My opinion is I'd have real problem crawlin', muddin', trailin' and possibly damaging a $28,000 + vehicle. For that kind of money I could get a whole lotta mods that would help not damage my TJ, OR, I could buy 2 possibly 3 more TJ's. No?
