Oh and one cool thing I found was an old cabin miles out on an old overgrown trail. When I first saw it, a quickly stopped and felt like I should turn around, but curiosity took over and I headed for the cabin.

The door was unlocked and inside I found food, wood, a stove, a couch, a bed, and simple tools like shovels and axes. By the door was a big paper booklet filled with names. Looking around more I found the original paper that must have been on the outside of the cabin. It was yellow and hard to read, but it turns out the cabin was used by some travelers coming through the area in the 1800's and is now a first come first serve place to camp. You can come and stay in the cabin if you wish and the packet was names of all the people that have come and gone with their experience of the cabin. I hope I can find it again one day and camp there.

I had a picture of it on my old phone that broke

I was about half way up when I heard a scream just like Jeepwayoflife described. I would further describe it as an insane wouman, being brutally murdered.

All bets were off at the moment regarding what were just fairy tales, myths, harpies, sirens and bogeymen; the were suddenly all real and I wished I had not found out at that moment, alone on a mountainside in the middle of the night.

A complete chill and shudder came through in a wave across my body. I dropped to my buckled knees. I really thought I was done for but realised that I had to do something to defend my self. I tried to load my gun but the shaking and shuddering were too much and I could not get it loaded.

Of course I was fine and was on my way in a few minutes. I was paying no attention to the voice in my head that told me I should be trying to find the woman that made that noise.

Over some time and after some research, the best candidate for the identity of that creature that I could find was that it was a bobcat.

To be sure, it sounded exactly like a woman. It was uncanny; and farghing scary as hell!

Yes. Pretty freaky too. Not sure if you were suggesting I might have heard a rabbit; so to be sure, the sound I heard would not be discernible from a female human.

That's indeed what I was wondering. The one I heard scream was when my dogs got it. It sounded just like a kid screaming.

And I can't find wav files for it. It is routinely spoken of as mythical. Sooner or later someone will get it recorded on a smartphone.

Exactly! Same stressed scream, just a little higher and smoother sounding.

I hear a panther has a wicked yell! I've never heard one but I've talked with older people that say it sounds like a woman screaming. Personally I hope I never hear anything like that. Cause I'd probably hurt myself trying the get the hell out of there

I know there are panthers in the NE. I used to be a cellular technician in Vermont. I was on mountaintops everyday and was lucky enough to see one from the safety of my truck on Mt. Ascutney.

I grew up in New Hampshire. One summer we would hear a similar sound every few nights. The old timers told us it probably was a fisher cat.

I grew up on a 200 acre ranch in Oregon. We used to sit up at night just to hear the big cats scream. Sitting around with several people on the porch is one thing when you hear this. Walking through thick brush in the dark on the way back from a deer hunt is probably the most terrifying sound you can hear. You will need to change yer shorts. To me a wounded rabbit sounds nothing like a big cat, and coyotes are just unmistakable. Maybe it was the " Chupacabra!" Hehehe

I actually had a buddy that rolled his jeep fleeing from the "screaming lady" lol. When he called me to come flip him back over I told him it was just a bobcat. To this day he is still convinced that some poor woman was being raped and murdered by a psychopath.

My brother and i used to be kept awake at night by bobcats screaming on the family farm in central eastern Minnesota. Scary as hell.

Unrelated big cat story: About 10 years ago, my wife and I were riding to the top of Mt. Haleakala on Maui. It was night time and we were going up to watch the sunrise. I saw a big cat looking at me through the window of the car, turned to my wife and asked if there were big cats on Maui. She and our guide agreed there were not. Imagine our surprise when we heard there had been sightings of a bug cat, but that everyone thought the reports were hoaxes.

I was walking around the desert north of Adelanto, Ca with a friend We found a crashed t-38 fighter. The ejection seats had fired and were fairly close to the wreck. We went back a few days later and the wreck had been cleaned up.

When I was in high school, a friend, his girlfriend, and I went to a local lake about 1:00 am. It was pretty warm, so we waded into the water. The girlfriend wanted to talk to me about my friend's birthday, so I got out of the water. All of a sudden, my friend yelled to me to find out where I was. I told him I was on shore. The said something had brushed his leg, and was leaving the water in a hurry. Before he could get to shore, he was thrown out of the water, head over heels. When he got to shore, he was limping due to some swelling around his left calf. We had no idea what it was, but we never went back to that lake.

This is not a particularly remarkable story; but it is about my initiation into the belief that spirits linger in this world after death.

I was having dinner and drinks at the home of a friend of mine; he is an older guy. It seemed to me that he had a good buzz going. Glazed eyes, a fixed smile, and a reluctance to make eye contact were unusual for him. He was lamenting the final days of a neighbor and friend; an old man, whom he spent a lot of time taking care of up until his death. He was revealing some details of this experience; and it had the essence of a confession. Their was a sense of guilt that he was imparting in this conversation.

The guilt was entirely unjustified, as he could not have done much about the circumstances and final outcome. Over the next year or two I had a similar experience, caring for my father as he died from Lou Gherig's disease and dementia. For all I did to care for him there were times that I did not do enough, and those failings bother me to this day. This is only relevant in as much as I can, now, understand this helpless guilt.

It was those kinds of failings that my friend was lamenting that night while we were eating and drinking.

During a lull in the conversation, while he was uncharacteristically staring a thousand yards away, in a modest sized kitchen, with the glazed eyes and resigned smile, that i felt a cold space move through my own bodily space. I can't say that I got a chill; it was different.

I looked at him and asked if he felt that; and without looking at me, and with no excitement; he said "yes".

I knew then that this spirit stays close to him; for better or for worse; and for the first time I became a believer in such things.

This didn’t happen to me but a former boss related this experience to us. He’s the type who might kid around with people but he would always eventually tell you if he was making something up. He swore that it is true.

He said that when he and his wife moved into their first house it was an older home in a small community. One of the unusual things he first noticed was that his bedside alarm clock would shut the alarm off, causing him to sometimes be late for work. He would make sure that the alarm was set each night but it would occasionally still be off by morning. He says it would do this randomly and not often enough to motivate him to replace the clock. He said that moving the clock across the room, away from the bed, didn’t seem to matter.

One day as he was getting dressed he says he felt like there was someone else in the room. He turned quickly and for a millisecond he thought he saw a figure standing there in a long coat, the type worn in the Civil War era. After doing a little research he learned that the area where the house was located was near an old Civil War cemetery.

He said that other strange things would happen in the house such as items moved around while he and his wife were away. They agreed to not talk about them while they were home but that they would make a casual nod or glance over to whatever it was that was out of place to let the other person know.

One day, while he was home alone, he finally got fed up with it and could no longer keep quiet. He says he was in the bedroom and yelled out loud, “If you are real, prove it!”. He said that a big, heavy rocking chair in another room suddenly flipped over.

The strange events kept happening. He eventually said something like, “OK, I believe that you exist”. The events decreased after that but never completely stopped.

I would not have spent another night in there after the rocking chair incident.

I may have had a strange experience last week. I was delivering some furniture to a building I always thought was extra creepy. We deliver to the back door that opens up to a split level landing. No one was there at the time I was unloading my freight.
While I was dragging in some 150 pound cabinets I noticed the door that is at the bottom of the landing had opened. I didn't think much of it cause I had 16 of these heavy things to hump in by my self. By the time I got close to finishing up I heard a slam, I thought one of the cabinet boxes had fallen over. I took the last box in and was looking for the one that had fallen(I was leaning them against a wall) everything was where I left it, but the basement door was shut again.
I did not think much of it and passed it off to the wind causing different air pressures in the old building.
The next day I was telling the driver that usually does that area about how he was lucky he didn't have to unload all that freight by him self. He jokingly said that I should have had the ghosts help me unload. I then told him about the door and how I just passed it off. Come to find out the building used to be a mental hospital in the 30s and was being renovated into a hotel/B&B.

My co driver then told me about the last time he had a delivery there he ran into a plumber chucking all his tools into his truck and was freaking out. He said that he just got done taking out a pipe in the basement that was a total pita and went out to have a smoke. When he came back from his break his tools were scattered across the basement floor and the pipe was back in the ceiling as if it was never touched. He jumped in his van and said he was never going back to that building again.

If the wind didn't move the door then that would probably by my most paranormal experience.

I work in racing. We had a car spin out and hit one of the jersey barriers. There was a fire bottle sitting on top of the wall at the time. The bottle was knocked off by the impact and discharged. When the car was towed away this image was left behind. You have to look very closely.
