I can see it. It looks like it resembles Dale Jr.. At least to me it does.

If I had inverted the photo, you would see the profile resemblance to Dale Sr. This occurred about 6 months after his death.

Add in the local urban legends of satanic rituals and sacrifices made for pretty hair raising outing, at least for a bunch of 15-17 year olds.

heres a good read on it

Equadome
I know this is an ancient post, but I lived in St Louis all of my life, and never heard of this place. Very cool!

(ETA, this is where the shooting range is off of 94, south of 40 is now?)

Here was our creepy teen hangout in south St. Louis (by Oakville). Creepy abandoned hospital/sanitarium on the banks of the Mississippi

I would go there sometimes in the early 90s, and the area is HUGE! It even had its own power plant with smokestack and huge generators, etc. I believe the area is now owned by DNR, and is being torn down. Lots of weird graffiti there, too.

A song for Bangingears:

Real Good For Free; by Joni Mitchell

I slept last night in a good hotel
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed around in the dirty town
And the children let out from the schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
And he played real good
On his clarinet, for free.

Now me I play for fortune
And those velvet curtain calls
I've got a black limousine
And two gentlemen
Escorting me to the halls
And I play if you have the money
Or if you're a friend to me
But the one man band
By the quick lunch stand
He was playing real good, for free.

Nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and high
They knew he had never
Been on their T.V.
So they passed his music by
I meant to go over and ask for a song
Maybe put on a harmony...
I heard his refrain
As the signal changed
He was playing real good, for free.

I once saw a series of videos of cars reportedly rolling backwards uphill from a Stop sign. The particular intersection became well-known for this phenomenon. Then someone put a level on the ground and found that it actually sloped that way. The surrounding trees and powerlines gave a visual impression that the ground was slanting forward when it was actually slanting backward. You would swear by looking at the video that cars were moving uphill. I'd be very interested if this is the same issue here. Do you know if anyone's actually verified the slope this way?

There's a place in New Brunswick called "Magnetic Hill". I went there with my father as a kid. It's an optical illusion and you honestly feel like you are rolling uphill in neutral. It's pretty freaky.

Not on the trail, but...

A few years ago, I bought the house I live in now. After the home inspection, before the closing they said that the pressure valve on the water tank needed to be replaced. This was a simple fix, so my real estate agent and I went to the house to a quick fix. We went inside and as I walked toward the cellar door, it opened all by itself. Wide open, not just a little while we watched in disbelief. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and we joked about a ghost wanting us to make the repair. We took it as a good sign.

On the trail...

As a kid, my friends were trail riding on our dirt bikes and I found the foundation of an old house with piles of bricks laying all around way out in the woods. There were no visible roads and everything was grown over, but it was once a huge building, so we nicknamed it "The Old Mansion." It was a pretty creepy place, so we went there often. When we asked around about it, people claimed it was haunted, so we camped out there a few times to see if we could see a ghost. Nothing ever happened, but it was fun trying.

My sister once worked for a funeral home and lived in the apartment above. People would sometimes comment on the building janitor to her, but she never told them there was no janitor. He appeared to be a man in his 70s who seemed to hang around the basement. Once, a plummer there on a repair job came running out of the building in hysterics, claiming that he had been talking to 'a nice old man' while working on pipes in the basement, when the old man simply vanished in mid-sentence. My sister had to go into the basement to retrieve the plummer's tools. He refused to come back. At other times she also heard a baby crying from somewhere in the building, but could never pinpoint where the sound was coming from. My other sister actually heard this once.

The only thing that freaked me out about the place was the fact that whenever I stayed there with my dog, he would stand in the hallway all night with his hackles raised, growling. I couldn't get him to calm down.

Thinking that the prevailing westerlies are coaxing the trees to play a part in this drama.

There's a hill near me in lake wales, Florida called spook hill. If you park in the middle of it and put your car in neutral you roll up the hill. Pretty crazy.

Reading this thread is like being a drug addict, I can't wait for my next fix.

Really like all of the stories, especially the ones by Bangingears. Let's hear some more, please!

The only thing I can add is once when I was a teenager (35 years ago, lol) my friend and I were walking down a dark deserted road near his house, out in the sticks.

As we were walking (smoking cigarettes) we heard the most blood curdling scream you can imagine, and it was like 50 yards from us. You never saw 2 kids run so freaking fast, back to his house, for shotguns and flashlights.

Never did see what it was or hear the "scream" ever again, and we spent a LOT of time in those woods. If I had to guess from what others are saying on here, I would say coyote, but I have never heard ANYTHING like that, either before or since, and I work swing shift and live in the country, so spend a lot of time outside and on the road at odd hours of the night.

Not really spooky, but one night my son and I were riding through the woods and we came across a boat. Looked like someone had dumped it, but it was weird seeing it that far in the woods.

Here's the creepy one, on a seperate night, my 3 year old and I were riding through another section of woods. People apparently drive back there to dump things because there were plenty of broken TV's, refrigerators, tables, and couches. As we got deeper, we came across some left over crime scene tape draped across some branches. It looked like the cops had finished doing whatever they had been doing, but forgot a few short sections. We turned around, drove home, and I told my wife our story. As it turned out, a teenaged girl had been kidnapped, taken back there, and raped just a few nights prior. Things like that bother me more than ghost stories.

about 2 yrs ago i hauled my 4 wheeler up to a friends house to ride around for a couple hrs no big deal we had been doing this bout once a week great way to unwind an relax.so the one nite him and had been riding in the field an decided to ride the trials in the woods, we rode the fence line like normal checked on his neighbors fence while we were out there. we had stopped for a smoke break when we looked at each other and knew something wasnt right so we flew back to the field and started talking we both felt like something else was watching us that night. we went back about 2 days later rode around walking looking for signs and nothing at all...

this one happened back in 01 or so a freind was building a haunted house in his garage for halloween. we went up on the higman hill it over looks the town(used to be a fresh air camp from 1800's till the 1950's) well the house and everything was long gone. we were cutting some brush and saplings along the main rd up the hill when we both felt like something was close an watching very closely(chills and hair standing up goose bumps like crazy) we both hop in his truck get down the trail maybe 25yds and a baby bear walked across the rd after he made sure the cub was outa the way we took off fast. neither of us want to deal with an unhappy moma bear.

again up on the same hill when i was in college in 04-06 friends and i would do night wheeling up on higman no big deal we just rode the trails well probably 4 trails are located in the area of the old camp. we had 2 jeeps 8 of us between them everyone with me got freaked out for something my friend behind me had one of his pass call me co pilot saying they someone walking around where the house was. not thinking anything of this we kept on with are night trip till we got up near one of the old tower buildings and then i saw someone go in the building and a light come on through the vents(no power to this building anymore) is when i decided it was time to leave. then heading off the hill someone in the group said they saw some walking up the rd towards where the house used to be but i dont remember seeing anyone on the rd that night.

At Bangingears, sorry dude. No doubt, your stories are very interesting to read, but I'm not buying it. All I think about is the movie, "The Sixth Sense." I'm a skeptic and I am going to have to see it to believe it. Can you grab one of them next time you talk to one and take a picture? Or maybe blast one in the face with a proton pack and trap it in a containment unit?
