Anything between 8,000 and 9,500 lbs. of capacity is ideal for a Wrangler. And the benefit to a 9,000 or 9,500 lb. winch over an 8,000 lb. model besides the obvious is the larger models require fewer amps from the electrical system to pull the same load that a smaller winch does. That said, an 8,000 lb. model is fine and definitely a good choice.

Personally, I'm a big fan of US-made winches, not the Chinese imports that seem to be everywhere. Warn and Tabor are both US made, so is Ramsey and many (but not all) of Superwinch models are US made. Chinese-built winches include Champion, Chicago (sold by Harbor Freight Tools), Milemarker's line of electric winches, some Superwinches, Smittybilt, and a few others. If you have the $$$, it's real hard to beat a Warn winch.

Hi I moved your post to General Discussion to get more responses for you.

I also have to say that I stick with Warn and Warn only. I use my winch more than most on here and my Warn 9k has been a tried and true trooper for me. Plus due to it being made in the USA if I do have a part that burns out on me, replacements are readily available.

Another good winch is the Patriot 9500 from Ramsey. Made in the USA. It was very easy to install, could be installed in an afternoon. Granted it's a bit pricey like the Warns but you get what you pay for.

That sucks cuz I got a Warn from there on sale for 460 last year. They charged a little much for the mounting plate though

warn is made in USA? you mean itīs assembled in USA.
a friend just maintanced his warn and he was wondering becvause of the different overprints on the parts.
the engine came from brasil, the solenoid box from taiwan, the tow hook from china...
there was no part inside the winch that had a "made in USA" overprint.

btw there was a difference between his warn and his cheap china winch.
in his warn the linkage between the engine and the brake/drum was made of cheap plastic. in his china winch that was made of steel.
in his warn the planetary gear bearing was made of cheap plastik. in his china winch it was made of brass.
before i saw that i thought that warn is the best winch brand on the market. now iīm sure that warn also uses the cheapest parts they can find.

thatīs normal in the age of globalization.
and that does confirm my decision to buy a cheap china winch. they are not as bad as most people say.

Good winches are not too far out of financial reach.
here is a good one:
http://www.rokmen.com/products/recov...inch_epi9.html

I would buy a known, reliable winch with a reputation rather than buy one of the come lately Chinese units. Until I can afford the winch I want I'll do without.

I would agree with everyone that its a good idea to stay away from some of the imported winches. I have owned both Warn and Ramsey over the past 20 years and they are both great. The local 4X4 shop around here does not sell Warn because they say you are paying an extra $200 just for the name brand. If money is not of concern, I would always go with Warn. When you are trying to stay within a budget, get a Ramsey. Ramsey started out making large commercial winches where Warn is only in the small recovery market. I bought a Ramsey 8500lb a few months ago for $399 and that was too good of a deal to pass up. I think regular price is about $550.
