Winch Mounts

I have a question/ thought...actually not mine something my brother suggested a few years back but I just recently got to thinking about it and it does make more sense than what I had thought...maybe.

IS it possible, or does someone already make a winch mount that is "portable" and could fit in a trailer receiver hitch? That way you wouldn't always be carrying around the winch exposed to the elements.

When you needed it, pull it out and slide it into the receiver winch away and put it back inside the Jeep.

I realize there would have to be a "plug" type thing front and rear for power, and also obviously need a receiver on both ends.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? are the winches to heavy or would this be practical with a "small" winch?

Thanks in advance

Yes they make winch plates that go into hitch receivers. Mixed thoughts on those. I thought about it too, but decided to go with regular front bumper permanent mount.

My uncle has done this for his Sami and a 6k winch. But i don't really wana lug around a 100 pound winch so mines a stationary mount. It may be just me but i don't like that i have the weight of a vehical and then some being held back by a single bolt.

I have a buddy that has one he mounts it front or rear. Kinda cool but heavy and gets in the way

Carrying 100+# around? Nope. Not to mention the wiring situation.

The "elements" aren't going to harm a GOOD winch. And they also make winch covers that help a little bit.

That is why I am asking...it SOUNDS like a good idea but like many of those, the practicality of it leaves a lot to be desired...The wiring IMO would be the easiest part.

I was questioning if there is a small enough winch that is still "worthwhile" to try and do this with...and than not having to worry about it walking off...due to poor "elements".....that is why I came here figured someone had done it or tried it or seen it already and thought I might get some good info...guess that is something I won't be looking to do...thanks for the responses though.
