Winch Specs

Guys,

I can get these 2 winches for the same price, but they have slightly different specs, and was wondering if you could advise on what they mean.

(see below for winches)

Obviously the 12k has more pull, but it has a higher Gear Reduction ratio.
So does that mean, that even under no load, it will have approx. half the line speed...?

Also, the 9.5k has a 6.4Kw motor and the 12k has a 4.2Kw motor.
does the 12k put less draw on the battery...?

Does using a winch (ie. high draw) shorten the life span of the battery...?

Recommendation for my '99 TJ

5. Overall Dimension: 577MM x 160MM x 215MM
6. Mounting Bolt Pattern: 254MM x 114.3MM

get a snatch block

Get the 9500 and get a snatch block. Then you have 19,000 and you will miss the higher line speed. You won't often need more then 9500.

Basically... The 12.5 winch is slower but stronger with a thicker cable.... The 9500 winch is faster but weaker with a skinnier cable.... That being said, that 9500lb winch is probably more than you will ever need. Just learn to use it correctly and maintain it well and it will do you right.
