Winch Theft?

Ok, I park in the garage as much as I can, but some nights I'll be at work thinking that some one is going to take my winch. I don't live in the worst of neighborhoods nor do I work in a bad area, but I think if some one gets there eye on it I will be done for. I normally try to park up close to the building or another vehicle to make it harder. I thought about throwing some tacks on the four bolts on the frame to secure it.

Does anyone have a story of there winch being stolen? What have you done to secure your winch better? Lastly, I know that nothing is truly theft proof. thanks for your replies in advance.

idk i would think that takeing one would mean unbolting it lifting the hood and removeing all the wires from the battery. think it would be a timely prosses with a lot of noise to wake you up . .. if your realy worried about it park it by a motion detecting outside light. .. and now that im thinking about it i think quadratec makes a anti theft system for them . would try looking that up on their webpage

Just put a couple good tacks on the bolts enough that they cant get a wrench on them.

Winches weights about 100lbs plus 4 bolts and having to open the hood to take the wires off the battery seems like alot of work to me.. It probably takes shorter time to just steal the jeep itself.

Portable impact wrench, heavy duty wire cutters...that sucker is gone in 60 seconds. A thief is not going to take the time to politely remove the wires from the battery...they'll just cut them...

still impact guns are not quite... I say just tack weld the top of the bolts.

Quiet or not it will take me more than 60 seconds to get me fat rolls awake and outta bed. By that time they are long gone. We would all like to think we would hear it but in all reality most people would not.

Good luck getting mine out of my XHD bumper in 60 seconds, there was a very good reason I mounted the winch before the bumper.

That was my thought that some one would snip the wires and unbolt the winch quickly. I will throw some tacks up there to be safe.

No one has had there winch stolen? That always a good thing. Hope I didn't jinx anyone...

I saw some awesome mods that put the winch inside the bumper, some even concealed behind the front license plate! That's my plan when the time comes =)

X2.
I've got a small air compressor (which you would think is easier to steal) mounted on my XHD where the winch is supposed to be. If you want to steal it, you need to take the bumper off first.

Like 'jeepoffroad04' said in an earlier post, it would be easier to steal the Jeep itself.
