Winch To The Rear?

Hello.

Is it possible to use a front winch to pull the Jeep to the rear?
Did you do that before?

I found this picture and a buddy said that it should work. Is that true?

Is there a way to relocate the front winch line to the rear?
IMO the front fender isn't strong enough to attach a snatch block to it like on the pic below.
Can I stick a self-made mounting to the tube in the front of the frame with a snatch block on the other end that sticks out on the side of the Jeep?

Thanks.

That looks like a frame stretcher to me. The ankerpunkt's will kill ya. You need to design a receiver mount type of system to move your winch the back of the jeep or mount a second winch.

It might sound crazy but I think your best bet is going to be a second winch mounted in the back somehow. If you put a pulley or block on the side and reel it in, I would think that there would be a tendency for it to try and pull the front end around. Unless you have those 2 anchor points like in the picture, but how many times when you were stuck did you have 2 anchor points(one on each side) to pull your self backwards. I never have.
It would also have to be very strong to resist bending under load, and all your winch line will be on one side when pulling in.

in the perfect spot this would work out very well but wont it just be easier to winch ahead until you are unstuck then turn around.

it is technically possible. There was a thread going around on Pirate or some other forum a few years ago debating it back and forth. I didn't think it was possible.

Then a 16 yr old kid with LEGOs and one of those small elec toy motors and some string built a model, recorded it proved it really does work.

it would be rediculous to try and do that in real life though. Tow strap is best thing for getting unstuck by having someone tug you backwards.

Winches are over-rated for small extractions. Save it for the waterfall and big ledges.

Sometimes the way back is much easier than to the front. In these situations Iīd like to recover myself without the help of others.
Iīm going to drive at some trophys in eastern europe next year. There Iīve to find my own way. And sometimes the only way is back..
A second winch at the rear isnīt an option for me. I need the small trunk for my tools and recovery things. And with a winch on tzhe rear bumper the rear angle would be too bad or the spare tire would not fit.

The method from my first picture works. I tried it out today. But there must be an easier way.

Whatīs about this idea?

build/buy a receiver mount for the winch then put a hitch on the front and the back. store it on the front and when you need to winch backwards move it to the rear.

I donīt want a hitch in the front. With a winch on a hitch the front angle would be very bad. The normal winch and bumper is in the way too often IMO:

Thatīs why I think about another way to winch me to the back.

I think about such a mounting with a snatch block on the one end that I can stick into the tube at the front of the frame:
