Question wires running into doors question

Hi
I just bought a new jeep wrangler sport. I wanted auto locking doors but i got a good deal on a jeep with manual ones. I wanted the dealership to upgrade the locks to electric locking but they wanted $700.

Looking at the doors, there appears to be wires running into the doors with a detachable plug. I assumed that to do it myself would involve a bunch of wiring, but it is possible all i have to do is buy the parts and connect them up in the doors? If so, where should i buy them and how much?

I can't help you with your question but I can Welcome you to the forum. I am sure someone will come along shortly to help you out. I don't even lock my doors.

i realize they are not the most secure vehicles, but would at least like
to know that the engine in imobolized. I was planning on getting an all in one $200 deal from best buy - alarm/remote start and keyless entry. However, I am guessing that i would need to have autolocking doors which i dont.

I checked your profile and didn't see what year, model you have. My 06 came with the sentry key system. Unless the key is used to start it, it will shut down in 5-10 seconds. It works, I know because I have tried it by accident.

Those existing wires are for the interior lights and the key in the ignition chime. When you unhook them to take the doors off the light stays off and the chime doesn't work.
