does it have a lever on the side,my warn does, not sure aboubt smittybilt but you
would think all winches do, the lever there is to engage or disengage [ free spool ]
the winch, it should be marked on which way to go

On our XRC10, there is just a lever on the top to engage it and put it in free spool. I'm sure he's moving that lever if he's asking the question.

Yeah it has the lever but it wont move to free spool. I didn't know if maybe you pulled out the rotated the lever or just rotated it free spool. Just seems weird that it works fine just can't free spool.

You rotate the lever to free spool and you should be able to pull the cable out freely.

That's just it! Lever won't rotate to free spool stuck in the engaged position!

Look up the users manual for that model and go from there. It might be something simple or you might have to dig into the unit.

From the internets:

Quote:
The issues I had were freespool and the cheap looking remote.

The freespool took another vehicle to drag it out. I dissasembled the planetary gear set (not bad) and cleaned and repacked with some good Lucas red bearing grease. I also replaced a small pin in the engage/disengage with the end of drill bit. Found this trick online. This fixed the freespool issue. Disengage and pull out by hand as expected.
