my rig is in the garage for the night its not a truck but more of an SUV but when you say SUV the first thing that comes to mind is a soccer mom driving the kids from 4wheeling the speed bumps at the grocery store

so hows your rig doing

From Wikipedia.........

"......the US Army's requirements were not formalised until July 11, 1940, when 135 U.S. automotive manufacturers were approached to submit a design conforming to their specifications, for a vehicle the World War II training manual TM 9-803 described as "... a general purpose, personnel, or cargo carrier especially adaptable for reconnaissance or command, and designated as 1/4-ton 4x4 Truck."

It was originally a truck, and a truck it should still be..........

Wikipedia the most up to date credible source on the interweb. =P

I would rather it be considered a truck then a SUV tho.

Try the link and see what you think........?

It's a truck, and anyone with the least bit of knowledge of the history of the Jeep or jeep, would know that!

You do know the difference between Jeep and jeep don't you?

Willys knew the name was magic and they wanted the exclusive right to that name, so they registered it as a trademark of Willys-Overland. The registration of the name “Jeep” is the usual point at which you see the name capitalized. Prior to the trademark registration it is a jeep and subsequent to the registration, it is a Jeep. This trademark allowed only Willys and the subsequent owners of Jeep to build Jeeps.

WWII jeeps were built prior to the trademark registration and are correctly refered to as "jeeps." Post WWII, civilian Jeeps were built following trademark registration and are correctly referred to as "Jeeps."

Not really trying to be a smart ass, but I guess I was........I just have some passion for the history of this great vehicle. Eisenhower said that without the Higgins Boat, the C-47, and the jeep, we could not have won the war.

I call mine a Jeep, plain and simple a Jeep. Not a truck, car, hybrid, SUV...but a Jeep.

My wife calls it the money pit and my mistress.
