Would you consider your jeep a truck or SUV?

So would you consider your jeep a truck or a SUV?

It's not just A SUV, it's the original SUV, the one that saved the world! OK, maybe LUCY didn't, but her great grand-dad did!

If I remember correctly, the term "SUV" (sport/utility vehicle) originated somewhere around 1990 when the IRS offered a tax credit for people who drove them. An SUV originally described an economical, somewhat sporty, bare bones, utilitarian type of vehicle that was good on gas. Smaller 4 cylinder utilitarian vehicles like the Suzuki Samurai, Isuzu Trooper, etc, qualified for the tax credit. The American car makers took the term, corrupted it, and ran with it, leading to the Suburbans, Expeditions, Escalades, etc, that are all over the roads today.

But, yeah... The Jeep was around for 30-something years before we ever heard the term "SUV", so, to me it's just a Jeep.

Jeep

Sorry but that doesn't describe a wrangler.

Wasn't there also some exclusion for truck based SUV's that only qualified if they didn't have a rear bumper? Suburbans have been around almost as long as our Jeeps, but they were nowhere as nice as today!

Dont have to have a bed to be a truck if it can haul stuff then its a truck. Take out the backseat and you can haul stuff so its more of a truck then a car.

Amen!!! We used to do that at the track, take a bunch of old clapped out beaters to the strip for street nationals, flog 'em till they died, and leave what ever couldn't leave under it's own power, usually full of empty "pit pops"!

If I rememeber correctly Jeeps were origionally designated as a general purpose utility vehicle (some civilian versions were even sold with farm impliments to be pulled for plowing and planting). SUV's are nothing more then station wagons/mini vans with a 4x4 stance. I would consider the Wranglers to still hold the Origional Utility vehicle tag without the sport.

For those that need a picture meet the Agri-jeep.

DUDE! If they still had those attachments, I wouldn't have had to get a 4wd tractor

Can here it now..."be back in a bit, gotta wheel in the fields..."
