Xterra vs Wrangler (pics)

So my buddy ownes a 2010 Nissan Xterra and I just bought a 2011 Wrangler. About a month ago we decided to go to Badlands offroad park and do some wheelin, well lomg story short he had a real hard time doing all the trails and dunes that i had no problem with... jump to last weekend we go out again to badlands, this time he gets his xterra stuck in some mud soooo bad it took me 20 min to tow him out and he was only on 3 wheels. After we left that day he kept insisting that his xterra is better than the jeep and to my surprise, after talkimg to a few other xterras that were there that day, they think the same?

just wanted to vent!

Heh Heh, I've had both and if your friend would learn how to drive---

He wouldn't need you to pull him out--

Not that the Xterra can follow the JK/JKU everywhere, but you've also gotta learn how to drive--BOTH !!

Didn't Motor Trent name the Xterra 4x4 of the year, and then all those sh*theads starting thinking they were all b*da*sses?

Motor Trend named the Xterra 4x4 of the year based on road testing conducted in the 'Digimon World.'

In reality, Wrangler is the '4x4 of the year'

i agree that he needs to learn how to drive, he askes me to spot for him every few min, i spend more rime spotting him then driving, and we arent even doing much rock crawling...

p.s. i did that mud pit only a few min before he got stuck, with no problem!

Agree, he needs to learn how to drive. Still, Xterra's are just glorified cars.

Wouldn't a Jeep would be stuck on the same line and location?

So, that was some very poor "position" driving, especially with "open" diffs !!

Probably, without lockers, but ending up in the X's position shouldn't have been done, IN ANY VEHICLE !! ??

I do have to admit, my wife tested a 2011 XTerra before she bought the Murano, and it was too rugged for her. It's really just a Nissan Fronteir pickup with a cargo area. It is a pretty good 4x4 compared to most SUV's, but it's still not a Jeep. I like that it doesn't come with carpet.

Looks and sounds like a driver issue far more than a vehicle issue in this instance, as in so many instances...

A lotta Jeepers have that same "unfortunate" habit about "NON-JEEPS" and the Xterra, at least the Xterra OR, is a very capable off-road vehicle--

It also has a good mileage/265HP engine with GREAT towing capabilities and it's super cruising, on the freeway !!

I wheel with a lot of Nissan guys, Xs and Frontiers and they make a great rig that will run very well off road. your buddy with the X. have him call Greg at PRG products and get a titan swap and coil overs for it and you'll see what a well built X can do.

Next time he gets stuck don't pull him out until he says the Wrangler is far superior to his lowly Nissan.

I suppose a stock wrangler and a stock Xterra are probably fairly similar in capabilities. The Jeep's advantage is the ease of making improvements. It's a way better base to start with.

I used to have a Nissan truck back in the mid nineties, but only so much you can do with the IFS front end and the limited aftermarket. Even stock, it would out wheel a Toyota

I almost bought an X-Terra before my Jeep, to say they are "glorified cars" is just inacurrate. The way he hit that hole, and if I'm not mistaking..the X has EBD on the rear (electronic brakeforce distribution), he just doesn't have as good of differentials as the Jeep. I personally like the X, not the FJ so much though... I am not to sure my Jeep would have faired much better on that type of mudhole in the same postion he hit it.

All the "talking crap", man they are just giving you shit...totally normal to defend your purchase/vehicle . I wouldn't take it personal. All growing up, I had Ford trucks and my friends had chevy's, so I know exactly what you are talking about.

Your buddy dropped a couple of dimes on his 2010 X...he'd probably defend his purchase of it even if it was a new Beetle. No one wants to admit they spent a ton of money on something inferior to what their buddy has. Almost everyone will talk some kind of trash on another vehicle, even if it's just in jest. Don't worry about it. Be humble. Keep pulling him out of mud holes and having fun. That's what 4-wheeling is all about.

I have always likes x terra s for what they are. I fairly priced, more rugged suv. Not bad vehicles at all. I guess for me it is that I don't talk crap abut peoples wheeling choices anymore than I want them to talk about mine. I have wheeled lifted subarus for a while. I always get crap until i follow or go thru something that some "way more capable" vehicle can get thru. Yes they get stuck but thats just part of the learning process for seat time.

Enjoy what you have and just have fun.
