Hey Guys I'm New To This Forumn And Somewhat New To Wranglers..I Currently Own A Cherokee That Is Strictly Off Road But Looking To Buy Myself A Wrangler For The Simple Fact Its A Jeep Wrangler haha But Anyways I Was Wondering If I Could Get Some Input On What Years Were The Best Years And Which Ones To Stay Away From..I Know I Want From A YJ And Up, 6cyl, For Sure A Dana 44 Rear End With Disc Brakes For Towing "Small Camper And Boat" And I'm Not Much For A Standard..To Hard To Drink Beer In The Woods If Ya Know What I'm Saying lol But Again Any Advice Would Be Much Appricated! Thanks!

Owned a Yj Tj and now a Jk.

The one I was driving "at the time" is the best

Although I love my Jk. I miss the simplicity of the Yj/Tj

Stay away from the 2.5. And yes good idea to look for a d44 if optioned at the time.

What is you budget? Go from there.

you won't find a factory 44 in many YJs unless it was swapped in
you can find them in TJ rubicons, unlimiteds and possibly saharas

if you are towing, you may want an unlimited anyway for the longer wheelbase

Not a good idea to tow with the wrangler... also i'm pretty sure the TJ rubi were the only ones with 4 wheel disk and d44... Dont really know on the JK's though..

No stock d44 in yj. D44 was a rare option in all tj's 97-06 expect for rubis. 03+ have 4point disk all others are disk drum set ups. Wranglers have a 2000lb tow rating and the Lj 03-06 was 3000lb. Either fine for a little boat or trailer honestly. Also 03+ had the 4speed overdrive trannies before that was only 3. 2000+ uses coil packs not distributer. But 2000-2001 heads have been prone to cracking if over heated over multiple occasions. All others fine. Some kind of casting copper reduction thing idk. That's all off the top of my head.

Edit:note: I have a 2000. No head problems. Never had a problem. So don't look at them as death. Just a fact
