Yet another locker question????

I found this add on craigslist for an ARB locker for a Dana 30. I have 4.11 gears. I wrote the guy and this is the reply I got....

"they had roughly 1200 miles on them , they were removed from the dana 30 and amc20 approx. 3 yrs ago and have been in dry storage. they are not damaged in any kind of way. left the compressor on the jeep ,so will need arb comp. kit. they are up to 3.73 gear ratio but you can run lower if go to thick ring gear. thanks. "

He is asking $300. Will it fit and work? Is it a good deal? what does he mean i can go lower if I run a thick ring gear? I will have to buy a compressor and wiring. If they don't fit mine i will give his number to whoever wants them.

thanks
Hardy

There is a break point on the carriers, usually 3:73 on down, to go up, say 4:10's, you need a different carrier. The other question, did it come out of a low pinion or high pinion and what do you have. I'm not really sure if it makes a difference I'm just trying to cover all the bases.

OK, so do you know your current gear ratio ? If you want to go to 4:10's and have 3:08's in there now you will need two new carriers, with your stock carriers you can go to 3:73's. Above that, new carriers are needed.
I have only glanced thru the ARB stuff and I'm not sure if they are carrier sized sensitive or not, I would poke around quadratecs web site and see what they say, they may have a fitment chart. I tend to stay with auburn in my XJ and Detroit in my TJ and now my ZJ, but those two are D35's, the XJ is an 8.25 and that carrier will fit ANY gear size they make from 3:07 up thru the 4:xx.

my current ratio is 4.10. So what I am gathering... is this will not fit my jeep without changing my gear ratio? thats sucks.

1st.. check to see if CJ dana 30 arb is same part number as TJ. 2nd, not crazy about them sitting for 3 years, even in dry storage. I would think the seals would need replaced or rather should be replaced at this point. 300 for both or each?

Also I believe they've made some changes to the D30 ARB's over the last few years. Something about bolts backing out and getting chewed up by the r&p. I'd stay away from something that was that old.
