YJ I-6 or TJ I-4

So I'm in the market for a jeep and I'm limited on funds.
I've narrowed my search results down to two. One is a 93 4.0L and the other is a 97 4 cyl. I drove the 6, liked it, but not the 4. The 4 has about 50k miles less on it and is in better shape ofcourse. Is the 4 really sluggish? I've got nothing to tow and live in South Fla so its pretty flat. Just wanted to hear some experienced opinions... Thanks

Well, the I4 is a great off road engine. Highway is another story. So unless you have a long highway commute or spend a lot of time on the freeway, get the TJ. The coil springs and other improvements made from the YJ are pretty big if you offroad it or don't like to fight rust (sorry YJ guys).

If you can wait, you should be able to find an I6 TJ for about the same price, which is my recommendation.

yj's arent' for everyone. thats a good year though, 92-95 were the best years. the 4 is a turd. it will last forever, but most who have had one, including me, stand by them, but wish they had the six. i own 3 4.0 jeeps now and will never buy another 4 cylinder after owning one.

if that yj is in good shape its a good buy. definately spend the money for a trusted shop to look it over real good. they should charge between half hour to an hour of labor, money well spent, in any jeep purchase actually.

No one with a 6 has ever stated they would be happier with the 4. But you have two very different platforms. Leaf vs coil. Stock to stock off road the TJ will do better. On road the YJ will have more power and not feel like a slug. Also lifting a YJ is dirt simple vs the TJ. How much of a price difference?

good point, tj's are retarded expensive to lift properly after a couple inches.
