Your 2 Door Jeep as A DD?

Tell me about your 2 door jeep as a DD especially if you have a Rubicon with more aggressive stock tires. I'm trying to decide if it would be a good choice for me. I have a 10 mile commute but may take it on the ocassional 500 mile trip and of course errands around town. I WILL also take it off road of course.

I will always have 2 doors I believe. A jeep would also be my 2nd vehicle. A 4 door jeep just screams "soccer mom/dad" in my head. (sorry JK soccerppl)

A 2 door functions well as a dd, especially with hardtop.

I am personally convinced that people who complain about using a JK as a commuter b/c of ride quality actually have marshmallow asses. Does that answer your question?

I've had my 2 door for almost 6 years. The first 2 years I didn't put many miles on it because I still had my old Audi and the jeep was a weekend driver. In the last 4 years tho I put 12-15k on a year. I have the X(sport) so no mud tires. I'm just buying my third set of tires and ill probably lift it while I'm at it.

The ride is rough. That's just plain and simple. It has solid axles so it will never be a plush ride. No one is indifferent to wranglers. They either love them, hate them, or think they love them buy one and realize they hate it. I always recommend people rent one or do an extended test drive just so they can find out where they fall. I commute 10 miles a day like you and I do it doorless all summer. I also do 500 mile road trips every 2-4 weeks. My butt gets tired after about 4 hours but I just walk around a bit. Not many cars are comfortable enough to not fatigue you after 4 hours

I have a 2-dr 2012 Jk sahara with 33 inch goodyear duratracs. I drive around my gfs toyota corolla from time to time and seriously miss my JK when I do. In my opinion it's the best possible daily commuter. I don't know where you live but our roads aren't always top notch. I don't even think about ramming giant crater pot holes or uneven manhole covers around here. I cringe when I do so in the corolla when I haven't been able to avoid one. I've got a 6 speed manual so gas mileage really isn't that bad in the city. Anything over 55mph and I notice the mpgs really dropping but it's frugal on gas below that.

I do agree about renting one and trying it out first. I can see how it's not for everyone. That said with the new pentastar, a hard top, and all season or AT tires, I don't see it as being a whole lot less comfortable, refined, or practical than most other SUVs or trucks.

My DD is a 13 JK with 2.5" lift and 33s. My JK rides like a Cadillac compared to my old Jeeps . You cant beat it for parking and getting around town. We take the JK over my wife's 2012 Ram 1500 Sport unless we are taking passengers because it actually gets better mpg and rides smoother and above all else it is more fun to drive.

Ours rides nicer than my 2003 F150 FX4 and I use that as a daily driver. My girlfriend who would rather have a car drives the Jeep daily and has never complained about the ride. It rides about the same as our Blazer 4x4 I just sold. I would rather be driving the Jeep.

My 2013 JK 2dr Rubicon is still stock as far as suspension and tires goes. It's my daily driver and daily miles are about the same as OP. Absolutely no issues. It's just fun to drive. I have an auto with the 4.10 my average MPG is 17.41. Normal daily driving I do not drive highways.

Was but not no more. Once lifted with bigger tires all bets are off IMO.

It's takes a little more attention with a 2 door because of the shorter wheelbase.

I think it's a common misconception that mud tires will make the ride unbearable. Even the guy at the tire shop who put my duratracs on was telling me that he was betting I'd be back to put my stock tires back on because I'd get tired of the buzzing of the mud terrains. Maybe it's different with other MT tires but with the duratracs, I don't notice a whole lot of buzz even on the highway. Added bonus is that they come with the snowflake symbol meaning they're great in deep snow.

a 2 door jeep is the perfect DD, especially if you have a short commute.... high enough to have some visibility and be cool, but short enough to park as easily as any small car. It's the best of both worlds.

I recently purchased my first Wrangler with full intention of it being my DD. I purchased it in May and have a little over 8600 miles on it. Yesterday we returned home from a trip to the Adirondacks which is a 500 mile round trip, plus a bunch of driving to and from our hiking destinations. The Wrangler was nothing short of awesome! By the way, it handled 100 MPH in a head wind pretty gracefully and kept up with the Audi A4 that was leading the way.!

Love my 2 door. Quick and nimble. Easy to park & get around in. I have stock Sport S and the ride is as good as my Ford FX4 crew cab or better. With the hardtop its just as quiet too. I don't think I'd enjoy a 4 door near as much.

I have a 1023 10 A with 31.6 inch KM2s for my DD. I prefer it to my wife's Audi any day of the week including 10 hr road trips.

Little too noisy for me with 33" duratracs and a soft top for 500 mile road trips but I use it every day. Tires arent that loud, they are drowned out by the wind noise from the soft top over 55mph, but at 45mph or so you can hear the tires pretty good.

If I had to I could drive it on a long trip, but I take the wife and kids on long trips usually and a 2 door jeep with 4 people doesnt leave much room for anything else

I drove in my 06 TJ from Maryland to Alabama and back this summer and I plan on driving from Maryland to Alabama then on to the Grand Canyon next summer. I just got it lifted but the OME lift seems more comfortable then the stock suspension.

My daily driver is an '07 X manual with soft top lifted 4". 4.10 gears and rollin' on Duratrac 35s. I love every minute of it and always reach for the Jeep keys for errands, dinner, etc. unless I need a truck.

My rule is doors and/or top off whenever possible. The Goodyears hum just enough to remind you that you can go anywhere you want.

Even my Princess fiancé loves it- Jeep hair and all!

We have a 2 dr soft top Sport and a 16 yo and 2 yo. The Jeep has taken over as our primary vehicle from the wife's 7 passenger Outlook because it's just fun. We even do grocery shopping trips in it with the kids, and managevto get everything in without the kids having to hold anything in their laps. Just have to be creative.

Mine is a 13 sport still with stock tires but have bumper and winch. Yes it is driven daily. I need a lift now that I lost 1/2 inch more in the front, I am going for 35's and a 2.5" lift. I take it off whenever I can. We get snow here and ice so I am looking forward to that too. I will not mind if the tires hum a little. Lookin at duratracs which are just aggressive enough without being mudders.
I bought it because I love it. The color, the ride, and I can go on and on. The dealer let me test drive it and it originally was for my wife. After playing with it for a day, it was going to be mine and basically it is. Get one.

My wife DDs her Rubicon, but she only has about a 20 mile round trip commute. My commute is ~1k miles a week in my Rubicon, no issues. We are planning to lift hers and get 35's but she will still have to DD it

I daily drive a 4 door 2013 Rubicon and I don't mind it at all. Seat warmers help now that it's getting colder. Also have the hard top for it.

Mine is a 2013 2 door Rubicon. I do have the hard top on mine, and use it every place that I go, including vacations. The tires make a little noise, but nothing objectionable.

If I had to do it over again, yes I would, so go buy one..........

My 10A 2dr is my DD. It has KM2 MTs, and they are not loud at all.

I have a 19 mile commute (one way), almost all of it on country back roads.

As stupid as it might sound, I really do enjoy the drive in the Jeep as opposed to my old truck or the wife's SUV.

2dr 2.5 inch lift with 33's... DD 20 miles roundtrip to work. When I first bought it I drove 100 miles roundtrip to work for 1.5 years.

Rock crawler exhaust and soft top are nice and loud in cabin.

I have a 12 JK 6 speed with a 3"lift still have stock tires for now but not for long. I drive 84 miles round trip to work every day and I cruise at 75-80 with traffic and I still average 19-21 mpgs depending on when I shift. I love it as a DD and as my weekend wheeler. I have a soft top and IDC. I LOVE JEEPS AND MY JK. Its my 6th jeep and I would not have it any other way. I may or may not spend around $120 a week in gas lol but thats fine by me considering how much I drive. In 3 weeks it will be one year since I took delivery and I have logged over 25k in miles, but I did buy it to drive it and I will drive till I drive it into the ground. #JEEP4LIFE
