Ability to lock a thread or update original post

To the moderators:
We have a thread going on our local (AR) forum regarding an upcoming meet-and-greet. As the thread has evolved, some of the information in the original post has changed and I realize that some people may miss some of these changes if they don't read the entire thread.

That being said, I think it may be best for me to start a new thread that lists the new information at the beginning.

However, it would be easier to just update/edit the original thread, or if thta's not possible, I'd prefer to lock the original thread, ending it w/ a link to the new thread.

What are my options here? thanks

Hi there
We could do a couple of different options, whatever is easiest for you.
1) We can give you the ability to edit the original post. So that way you can update/edit the list for people who see the original post (easy to update lists and such).
2) We can lock the thread for you and you can make a new thread.

Just let us know which you would like. Also, for future reference, you can PM a Mod or Admin for these questions. You can also hit the report button (the red triangle looking thing next to a post) and explain what you would like. This sends an automatic report to us (this also works with spam and other important issues).

The ability to edit the first post is awesome. I have set a couple meet and greet threads up this way with the help of a mod and it seemed to work very well.

Ah. so it is possible w/ moderator assistance? Groovy.

I'll see what a mod has to say.

thanks!

You could always talk to RatherBNarizona from post two or Ageless Stranger from post three

They are mods

Sorry, missed your post earlier. That what I get for multi-tasking at work. FAIL.

I think option #1 would be the best solution in this situation. I know I mentioned locking and creating, but w/ the ability to edit, that's not needed.

Dumb question: I'll be able to edit the original post, but not edit the thread name. Is that correct? I'm a database geek so I assume they are all just tied to ID #s behind the scenes and name is irrelevant to the system. Just wondering.

And thanks for the info on the triangle. Never had to contact you guys before but will use it from now on if/when the need arises.

Much thanks.

You shoudl be able to edit post 1 now. I think you can also edit the thread title -click on the advanced reply editor to do this - if not, holler and we can fix it for you.

Done, I'll give you access to edit the first post.
I think you can edit the title, if not, just shoot me a PM and I will change it for you.

*edit: Damn, Janet is just too fast for me!

Thanks folks, really appreciated.

This is our first attempt at getting something going down here in AR and I'm trying to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.

I recv'd the groups approval to alter the thread title so that we can use this is our master thread from now on. I gave it a shot and as far as I can tell, I can't do it.

We'd like to rename the thread to "Central AR Meet-Ups Master Thread".

If one of you can do this, it would be greatly appreciated.

On thing: This wouldn't break anyone's subscriptions would it? If so, I need to make sure all of our active members in the thread are aware so that I can let them know BEFORE we do this.

thanks

I'll do it for ya. I don't *think* it will break subscriptions, but I can test it on this thread first.
