Accessing Protected Date

The top advertising banner on the page is being blocked by my anti-virus program because it is trying to access protected data on my pc. I also get a message it is my credit card info it is trying to access. Can someone please look into this.

Jeff - can you tell me what banner you are seeing? We all see different ads.

Janet, I not sure which advertiser it was because my anti-virus program blocks it. But it was the banner just below the " User CP Vendors Jeep Profile" line. The reason I reported it was because I kept getting a popup warning from my anti-virus program about every 5-10 seconds that it was trying to access data. I hope this helps.

If you're getting a pop-up every 5-10 seconds it sounds like you picked up a malware that's installed on your computer. No banner can try to access your computer just by it being displayed. Malware is designed to look like a legitimate Microsoft warning. The purpose of the malware is to get you to click the "fix" which usually accompanies the pop-up and have you spend money on downloading some removal program that only makes it worse.

Wait a moment and I'll try to locate the web address of a true (and free) anti-malware program. I used it myself and it is installed on my computers.

OK, here it is.

Malwarebytes' Anti-malware

Landing page will offer a free and paid version. The free version just has less bells and whistles, but should do the job for you.

Malware is not a virus, which is why your anti-virus program may not be finding it. Hopefully, this will find and eliminate your problem.

x2 this is a great program . If you get errors about this being a virus, then you will need to run it and/or install it in safe mode on your computer. I've used this lots of times, and as long as its up to date it has taken care of everything my computer has caught.

Hopefully, he didn't click on the "fix" trap that was in the malware popup. He hasn't returned.

Hey Guys, the popup warning I get is from the anti-virus program installed on my pc. It just lets me know that someone is trying to access protected data. I use Trend Micro Internet Security and it allows you to set up certain data as protected, such as credit card #'s, phone #'s and the like. I will try to get a screen shot and post it when it happens again. Thanks for your suggestions.

We will take a look at this but in the meantime is there any report information you can access when you get an alert that could provide some details?

That is probably an issue with strict settings on your Trend Micros software. From doing a couple Google searches it appears the software should have a log which will tell you more information:

For Trend Micro Titanium series:
1. Open your Trend Micro Titanium main console.
2. Click on the link under Security Summary.
3. Click on View Detailed logs located at the lower right hand side of the console.
4. Select Data Theft Prevention using the drop-down list.
5. Click on View Logs if needed.

You will see there the logs under Data Theft Prevention.

If you see anything of more concern please feel free to post it here or send me a PM so I can investigate further.

I checked my security logs for the data theft prevention and it only lists the date, time and what type of data. It does not give any more details. Sorry I can't be of more help. Normally I wouldn't have mentioned it because I get a few of these every time I'm on the web, but that night it kept happening every few seconds and continued for about 20 min. I can tell you that it started at 8:47 PM CST. I wish I could give you more detailed info.
