It's just a rule. Keeps people from changing what they've said and back pedaling. If anything does need to be changed though, for logical reasons, feel free to PM a mod or hit the report a post button and leave a note.
Can't edit anything older than 30 min.. I don't get it but that is that way it is.. It's not horrible though, after that long no reason to really edit a post.. Use to be 15 min
What happens if you get called away from your computer for any number of reasons, and are not finished with what you have to say. This happens to me all the time.
Lets say you are replying to something you misunderstood and are a bit snippy with your rebuttal. Then realize you misunderstood what was said and now your response isn't appropriate.
There are a lot of sites who do not have any such rule and have had no issues like that are stated in the administration's reasoning for keeping such a needless rule.
with wf i would just put up another post saying that you misunderstood something.. cause if you post something and walk away from the computer and it's already read or responded to.. no point in changing it.. just have to make another post to correct what you misunderstood

Your scenario has no relevance here because with or without this rule your scenario is still the same. I am not saying your scenario isn't possible, it most certainly is. It just has no merit here because the end result is the same no matter if you can or can't edit.
I brought this subject up a little while ago and asked for a poll so the Admin could see what the body wanted. There was never any poll and they changed the rule from 15 min to 30 min.
I still say a poll should have been taken and see what the body would prefer, and then make a correction in the policy if the poll shows a change is warranted. You know like a democratic process should work.
AzTJ my displeasure is not aimed at the members or moderators, I understand your position in this. The site is here for the members not just for one person. My position on this matter is not about being right or wrong, or admitting fault. It is about helping this site become the best it can be for those it is here for.
