Cool Fuelish question-perhaps.

Bought new 2010 Jeep Wrangler. Went 4 wheeling-hello hot oil light-learned from this forum to use 4-low next time. That's good. Informative. Real question is fuel knock. I use low grade octane. Thought on board computer would recognize issue and adjust spark detonation. My 2006 GMC 1/2 ton does. Computer glitch needs update? Talk to me.

What is your question? Do you have knock? How do you know? Is a CEL thrown? Maybe detonation happened when you got too hot, which can happen, and the CEL was saved from when you overheated your truck.

Knock showed up when hill climbing as knock shows up on stress situations. 15 minutes later the hot oil light came on. My last Jeep was an 86 Wrangler. It was easy to understand. Inform me of this CEL if you would please.

My real question was I thought the on board computer would recognize the knocking issue and adjust spark detonation to prevent this.

These trucks, as far as I know, don't have knock sensors. Was it a CEL or knock? Did you pull the code for the CEL? How do you know it was knock?

If you overheated your truck, it could be knock. But if your truck doesn't have a knock sensor, how would the computer know to pull timing?
