Is it a volunteer service? Or some compensation involved or none of my business?!! But for real, I wanna apply, does the FBI have to come inspect my crib?

They don't get paid, and I think you have to be like an angel and then if they need more mods they ask them if they are interested. I don't think you can "apply".

Does that mean it contains Gear lube, and a set of Torx bits?

You have to be asked. It's not a paid position, and as I have met at least 3 of them in person, I know that it's a lot more work than privilege. Although it does have it's perks.

Yeah, man. It's a thankless job and it's kinda hard to stay fair and balanced sometimes.

The paychecks aren't as good as my last job, but they ain't too bad.

The new 'hiring' of mods depends on the workload each of us have. If we need more help, Janet will bring it up. They come after you, no need to apply. Some people think that post counts matter, which they definitely do not. There are quite a few people with 10k+ posts who would not make great moderators. You need to be fair and have a good overall attitude towards members and be respectful. A big thing for me was that I would try to help out other members as much as possible, especially newer members. While most would say "go search for it", I would spend 10-15 minutes, find the thread, and send them the link. It is about going to extra mile and being able to keep your cool under pressure. It is not for everyone, a lot of people will hate you and be confrontational, but it does have its rewards. You deal with a lot of stuff that most members do not see, and you have to be very active on the forum (Note: activity and post count are two different things).
*This is not an official handbook guide, this is just my opinion.

Once you are here long enough, you will get to know each person better (just like any other member). We like to joke around, but sometimes rules need to be enforced as well.

this is a laugh.

basically, the only way you will get a mod spot
is to be a part of the good ole boy network.
dont let anyone tell you any different.
once you do get a mod spot, you can do pretty
much whatever you want to do. there are some
really cool mods that i know, but i have ran across
a few real douchebaggeries in my time. most of them
have a head the size of the goodyear blimp.

I like every single mod on WF with the except of Barrie, we of the HSJT kind of more or less worship him
