Lightbulb This Is How To Post A Pic

Ok, this thread is show you how to post a picture in these forums, since so many people seem to be asking latly. But the first thing you need to do is get your pictures hosted on the web. There are a number of FREE image hosting sites, but I'm only going to demo one.

FREE IMAGE HOSTING OPTIONS:
each host has thier own quirks, so read up before deciding on using one

Photobucket

ImageShack

TinyPic

Flickr

VillagePhotos

STEP ONE:
After choosing the image host you want to use, in this case ImageShack, you need to find the photos that you want to use.
I like to keep all of my jeep pics together.

STEP TWO:
Go to http://www.ImageShack.us -

You don't need an account, but its easier to keep track of your hosted photos if you create one... its FREE! But you don't need an account for them to be hosted. Either way, the actions to fallow are pretty much the same.

Click on the "BROWSE" button and navigate your way to the location of your jeep photos. Select the one you want and hit "OPEN".

Now if your images are pretty big you can have ImageShack resize them for you. If your pic is larger than 1024x768 pixels, it would be wise to reseize them something smaller. A general rule of thumb is, "800x600 is big enough."

Once you select the size at wich your image will be resized(IF NEEDED) go a head and hit the "HOST IT!" button.

STEP THREE PART ONE:
If you needed you image resized, read this! If not, skip to "step three part two"

After hitting the "HOST IT!" button you should end up at a page like this.

Now we want the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" link.

Highlight it and go to the top of your web browser, and under "EDIT" select "COPY".

STEP THREE PART TWO:
After hitting the "HOST IT!" button you should end up at a page like this.

Now we want the URL for your image, or the "DIRECT LINK".

Highlight it and go to the top of your web browser, and under "EDIT" select "COPY".

STEP FOUR PART ONE:
If you needed you image resized, read this! If not, skip to "step four part two"

Once you have the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" link copied, go over to the thread that you want to post your picture in. In the space to type out a reply, go back up to "EDIT" and hit "PASTE".

It should look similar to this code:
[HTML][/HTML]

If it looks like that, then hit the "PREVIEW POST" button and make sure your image shows up. If it does, go a head and hit the "SUBMIT REPLY".

STEP FOUR PART TWO:
Once you have your image's URL copied and in your "clipboard", go over to the thread that you want to post your picture in. And in your "Reply to Topic" screen, there is a little button with a mountain and sun on it. Click that:

It will open a little dialog box asking for your images URL. Click inside the space where it wants you to enter the URL, and go back up to "EDIT" and click "PASTE"

Then click "OK" and you should then have a little line of code that looks similar to this:

[HTML][/HTML]

If it looks like that, then hit the "PREVIEW POST" button and make sure your image shows up. If it does, go a head and hit the "SUBMIT REPLY".

Congratulations! You just successfully posted a picture!
Now go out and take some more pics of your Jeep to share!

I tried to make this as detailed but as simple as possible, so if there are any errors, please let me know what needs to be fixed.

i always use
http://jeep.cfasp.de//index.php

it´s on german, but its free, you don´t have to register and you get the link incl. the IMG tags after uploading the pics.
a buddy offers this free service.

i don´t know if the site is translated to english if you use an english browser.
press the left button, then choose the picture on your computer, then press the right bigger button.
now you only have to copy the link incl. the IMG tags to the post in the forum.

Well that site eliminates about 99.9% of the forum members. I'm sure it works well for you though.

Nah - paint fine if you resize images that way. I just included ImageShack's resizing option as some poeple might not even know how to use paint.

Power toys for windows has an image resizer and it's free!!, once installed all you do is find the pic stored on your computer, right click and choose resize image---choose which size you want---small, medium, large or handheld and it creates a copy of your pic to that size then upload to your image hosting site.

Excellent post AZ. I'm going to move this into the General Discussion FAQ section. This is a perfect post for that section.

However I just wanted to let everyone know that AZ's instructions are for hot linking pictures into your post. We also allow users on WF to load photo's to our server should they choose. If you would prefer not to load your pictures to the web first you can just click on the "Manage Attachments" button when you are creating a post and upload photo's directly. There are some size limitations so if your photo's are too large then you will have to re-size them on your own first.

And as a side note I use Photobucket to load my pics to the web and it automatically resizes any photo I load to just about perfect forum size.

Car domain also resizes images on its own. When you up load them to the website it automatically changes sizes.

I think something screwed up the code on my original post. Some images wrong... might have something to do with some codes being turned off after the attack.

For photo bucket, do this instead. Copy the link and paste it here. No need to go to the "insert image" on the forum.. Photobucket automatically adds the IMG tags for ya so simply copy the link and paste here. Once you submit the post, the image will show.

and here is the posted "image"

hi all

when I post an image it resizes to the size you see below, how could I make the image a bit bigger.

I am using imageshack/us with frame size of 800x1024 or something like that.

try using www.photobucket.com, that site seems to work the best and seems to be the most compatible w/ the forum.

Re-size your images to about 800x600 before you post them to your photo account. That is a good size without being obnoxious and slowing down other peoples computers while loading. I use Photobucket for all my posting and it does not resize your pics into "thumbnail" format. Also, try saving your images as JPEG's. Sometimes image file size is an issue when loading.
