Default Thread subscription default

To board prime Administrators.

In my opinion (as a veteran vBulletin operator and skin designer) might it not be a good idea to make thread subscription the default setting? I don't think most new members are familiar with vBulletin's many options, and haven't a clue you can keep track of threads in which you have posted by using the 'thread tools - subscribe to thread' option each time you post in a thread, or by setting an automatic subscription option in their user control panels. I feel people might participate more actively if they had a reminder of where they've posted. Just a thought.

Regards,

B.

Interesting idea, but I think it would cause more grumbling than good. You start posting in 5 or 10 busy threads and then can't figure out where the emails are coming from and people start getting upset with use about sending them emails they didn't ask for.

i have to agree with jack. it is, in theory a good idea, but i know that it would have confused the heck out of me, and possibly turned me off to the forum, to have all of those emails and not know why. tjersey, maybe you should do a write up on the subscribe feature so that newbs can introduce themselves to it and take advantage of it on their own.

My first post on this subject got deleted, why I do not know. But what I stated was, the thread subscription can be a good idea if you do not check off email notification.
The wireless forum I belong to is set up, that if you post on a thread than it automatically subscribes you to that thread. The format of this forum is the same as the wireless forum, either way is fine by me it is just my opinion. if I want to subscribe to a thread than I can do it on my own.

I prefer not having to "un-select" being automatically subsribed to every thread I post on. The plethera of e-mails would be a pain.

Can you imagine even five years ago being able to say you were a "skin designer"? It's a cool world!

I do not get an email for every thread I post on in the wireless forum, it is an option. And I agree, all those emails would be annoying after awhile.
