Vertical ads...

What's the deal with the vertical ads that sometimes pop down and block the first post in a thread?

Annoying, to say the least.

Should not be any.

Are you signed in when they happen?
Are you using a phone app or PC?

If you see them again PLEASE let us know what the add is and we can handle the issue.

Thanks bud.

Always signed in, if I'm on WF. And it was on my computer...happened 4 times last night, late. A couple of different ads. The only way I could get rid of them was to click out of the thread. (unless there was a time limit on the ad, which I don't know cuz I lack patience.)

I'll keep a camera cocked & locked in case it happens again.

Only one I saw Friday night (around 11:40 p.m. or so). This one showed up while I was trying to reply to a post. Thursday night there were a 4-5 different ones, and they all showed up covering the first post in threads I was trying to read. Only way to get rid of em seems to be to click out of the thread.

You shouldn't be seeing an ad like that from WF. There are two possible scenarios (both plausible... an ad agency slipped in a popup ad of some kind or you have some malware. Since no one else has reported an ad like that let's run with the other.

Please download malwarebytes , (free) and run a scan. it's particularly good at picking up this kind of stuff.

I am seeing the vertical ads to. It's been happening the last 4 or 5 days. I have to x them out or change page.

Edit. I'm always signed in too.

I'm on Macs, and run Norton Antivirus software, which I keep current.

An ad agency might've slipped in a popup, but when I'm on WF I don't click on links (unless they're links to WF threads) without first disabling my cookies, then re-enabling them after closing out the new window so I can continue on WF.

I've seen these vertical ads only twice, between 11 p.m. and midnight.

Not a big deal, I just click out of the thread. Just figured y'all might wanna know...

Thought I'd check in after 11 p.m. and see if I got any nibbles.

Maybe it's just me; but I find it odd that it only happens during a certain time window. Never seen it in morning, midday, etc. Hmm.

Tonight's take, in order: 11:22 p.m., 11:23 p.m., 11:25 p.m. No more after that, but I gotta catch an early flight and didn't stay on past this post...

Fixed the problem by changing some of my Firefox and internal firewall settings.

Definitely something on WF, though. There are no viruses or malware on my Macs. I had an IT guy run a scan on both of my laptops last night, and came up clean.

Tonight after 11 p.m. (the time when all the vertical ads started showing up during the last week or so), I received six notices saying "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page."

I'm pretty sure that redirection is where the ads were coming from.

I'm guessing that this is something specific to the MAC OS. Can anyone else that's getting these confirm if they are also on a MAC or not?

Probably shows up inside the browser on a PC, but comes up differently on a MAC because the OS is coded differently and the ads probably aren't tested on a MAC.

Happened to me on a JK thread and would not go away until I posted a post complaining about it. In any event, annoying.

Are all of you using Firefox?

In order to eliminate the problem, everyone needs to post the OS (MAC or PC) + Browser versions. If it can be narrowed down to the same combo, it will be easier to fix.

I don't know about the MAC world, but with PC, Firefox has been 'release crazy' lately. Make sure you update to the latest version.

Firefox and Safari. Updates are automatic.

I almost never use Safari, but did a couple of nights to see if the ads would pop up there, too. They did.

If all of you have tried different browsers, then looks like an issue with the MAC OS. What version of the OS are all of you running?

Not that I can really help fix the problem, but you need to figure out if this is an issue with a specific MAC OS release, then report it to the admins.
