Why is WF so slow now???

So I took a bit over 1 year hiatus from WF due to selling my Jeep and now that I have a new one every time I get on WF its like I'm on Dial-up...
It certainly wasn't like this when I left...

Is there anything I can help with, I'm a network Administrator though I don't have any experience with vBulletin I'm sure I could learn it...

Here is my Speedtest.net report from home, and work is no better on WF even though it's essentially twice as fast... Computers frustrate me if by the time I finish clicking the link to a page or application it isn't loaded and ready to go. My Pc's and Macs are all PCIe based flash SSD and have 16gb of ram or better... I can download over a GB in less than 1 min... I know it's not on my end lol

Here is one to DC from my home in 15102 (Pittsburgh)

Here is one to Seattle from 15102 (Pittsburgh)

It takes about 30 seconds to post a thread and about 15 to open a post...

My up/down speed isn't anywhere near as good as that and my pages load instantly.

I have isolated it to pulling up profile pages, pulling up 2+page threads, and posting is when it decides to lag... It does it on my phone while on cellular networks, wifi at home, wired at home, wifi at work, wired at work, it is however not overly consistent...
If I open 6 seperate threads at once, 2-3 will load within 3-4sec one within 10sec and the rest are like waiting for grass to grow at 18 sec...

The request took 70ms on average round trip
However the packet makes it to Soft Layer Technologies in under 12ms...

Maybe my perception of instantly doesn't quite match everyone elses' lol
if my computer can't boot from off within 15sec I build a new one... I fix and support PCs and servers all day, when I get home I just want everything to function flawlessly. Apparently my complete lack of OCD in other areas is compensated for with computers and technology...

It has just been driving me nutz because I can stream 5 different HD netflix movies and have 3 people watching YouTube and doing a server backup to my house and still not over saturate the internet pipe here... This is literally the only site I visit that refuses to open what I have selected the instant the mouse button is released... Must be a Jeep thing my 3.21's wont even maintain 65 on the flat without a tailwind...

Yep, same here. It seems to have happened over just the past month or two.

Even with short threads...like this one...I clicked on the link, was able to walk to the kitchen and get a cup of coffee and come back to watch this page load.

Frustrating...

If you want to really stretch the brain cells I could explain SHA256 hash algorithms for Bitcoin mining... or even just the hardware and concepts behind Bitcoin... they make my head hurt and I already understand them...

Is the site holding on anything in the static bar, if you are on FF or Chrome it is in the left hand corner at the bottom.

The speed tests don't really help much, since, when we run them the site say all is good. Same as users having different results.

Does it happen all the time or is there a time frame in which it happens.

Seems to happen all the time for me and I've used FF, IE and Chrome...all with the same, lagging results.

I get major lag from the app but that might just be the app. Sometimes pages don't load at all.
If my computer was capable of loading a website id let you know how it works on there but we'd all die of old age by the time it did lol

as2.autoforums and wranglerforum.com hang the longest...

I use an add-on called status bar extension in FF, It reports that this thread took 13 sec to load on a page refresh and 29 seconds on a cache-less refresh (basically as if opening WF for the first time on a brand new computer)

l.Betrad.com has hung for over 20 sec by itself on numerous occasions...
Which has to do with adsense and related ads on the site...

What does it take to "pay" our way 100% add free lol... Thank god you offer supporting member add removal from between the posts or I would jump off a cliff...

For the most part it's during the day from 11am to 11pm Eastern... after that it is sporadic in comparison, 1 in 5 threads will be slow instead of pretty much every other one...

On the latest edit dt.adsafeprotected.com has been stuck for over 7 min lol...

Someone needs to kick the damn server in the a$$ or something. It's dragging BIG TIME tonight.

UGH! This is getting ridiculous...

DUMP THE ADS! They seem to be the cause of the slowdown.

Ya I came here to complain about the load times lol. Seen there was a thread.

JeepForum, infamousnissan, LS1LT1 Forums are all lighting fast compared to this forum (but I love it so).

Usually takes about 10-20 seconds to load anything but my profile

What happens if you disabled sigs, avatars and images in the userCP? http://www.wranglerforum.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

I'm just seeing what could be the issue because the same slowness is not experienced here.

From what I've seen, its either waiting on some sort of ad or the WF domain itself. I installed AdBlock Plus on Chrome and its helped a little...but still hangs quite a bit.

This could be a separate issue with my machine, but IE times out maybe 70% of the time when I click a link. This also happens with Glock Talk. I've reset my settings in IE 11. I'm about to reimage my C: drive.

There are tons of factors that contribute to slow page loading, server load being a huge factor however anything that's wired into vB that pulls from other sites (such as ad servers) will increase the potential for problems.

Properly fixing issues like this is difficult. In order to find out what's really going on someone who's experiencing the slowness needs to capture the network traffic for analysis. Doing that should point to the problem, however that's not something that most people would want to do for a variety of reasons (privacy/security being one of them) and if it's done without prep (stopping/closing other apps/services that generate network traffic) the capture will have a lot of irrelevant data that has to be sifted through making finding the problem more difficult.

Point is that most times the work necessary isn't worth it.

Pages are loading fine for me or I'd do it myself.

For the record, AdBlock Plus on Chrome blocks anywhere between 15 and 20 ads.

Sooo...who is responsible for so many ads?

That would likely be the forum administrators ad setup. If those ad's are coming from overloaded servers it could seriously affect page load times. If using an ad blocker or otherwise blocking ad servers (I block over 12k hosts at my border) fixes the page load times seems likely the cause.

If that's the case the board admins should take it up with the ad server(s).

Sounds like it to me, too.

Yes, ad blocker in chrome seems to have helped a little. Now, ads get blocked immediately and mostly I wait on the site itself.

I don't have too much issue on the site from my notebook or pc (both high end) but the Android App is terrible...if pages load, they r slow. If I get a notification of a post in a subscribed thread, I have to open the notification and then refresh the pages manually. Annoying. First world problems though. The site could be quicker for sure. I am gonna disable ads and see if that helps.

Still as slow and sporadic as before I have just written off the idea of it being fixed... 99% of it is ads and unless there is a way to buy our way completely add free it's not worth my time to troubleshoot it from the sidelines... I can't exactly access anything so testing from a user stand point only goes so far... I could setup an extra laptop for them to remote into and so on but it's likely that most don't find it slow.
