08 X doesn't start

I have an 08X and replaced the battery about 6 months ago. Yesterday I started up just fine and drove about 20 feet, stopped and turned off for about 15 minutes. Tried to start back up and all I got was 1 click when I turned the ignition. I tried this several times with the same result. I tried again after just sitting there 10 minutes and it started up and I drove home with no problem. This morning it will not start.

I have not tried jumping it yet because I'm thinking if I test serveral things while it isn't working I might find the problem easier. So I am asking what steps I should take in troubleshooting. Is testing the battery with a volt meter reliable information or do I need to test the cold cranking amps? Should I try testing the alternator? To me it doesn't sound like the starter because I get a click everytime I turn the ignition over. I woulnd't think a 6 month old battery would be dead already but I don't have doors on and when I turn the ignition off it has to time out before everything powers down so is that an issue? Shouldn't have driving it home yesterday have charged it back up unless it is an alternator problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

I occasionally have a similar issue...I have power to the jeep but it just simply clicks...I'm not sure if it is the starter or a neutral safety switch (if we have those) because I dropped it into neutral and it starts right up (automatic) so maybe try that when it pops back up again

Since you have an 08 it could be this:
NUMBER: 08-007-08
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: March 04, 2008

SUBJECT:
No Engine Crank Or No Engine Start Due To Electronic Lockup Of The WCM / SKREEM

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the Wireless Control Module (WCM). The WCM is
also referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM).

MODELS:
2007 - 2008 (JK) Wrangler

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before November 30, 2007 (MDH 1130XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a no engine crank and/or a no engine start condition. Also, the remote keyless entry (RKE) system may not operate. This condition may be due to an electrostatic discharge (ESD) from the ignition key into the Wireless Control Module (WCM), causing the WCM to electronically lockup. This condition may occur more
frequently in dry and/or cold weather conditions where a sufficient electrostatic charge is more easily produced. This condition is corrected by the replacement of the WCM.

Until the WCM is replaced, the WCM may be reset (unlocked) by either: disconnecting and then reconnect the battery negative cable at the battery, or by removing the IOD fuse (with the key out of the ignition switch), waiting 30 seconds, and reinstall the IOD fuse.

I was having similar intermittent issues, sometimes it would click, but mostly it would try to start, get confused, and almost tried to shut of and turn on before it would turn over and run. I finally had the starter replaced at the last inspection about a month ago and have not had the issue again. Could have been a bad ground, or the starter itself. Regardless, it has 268Kmiles, so i figured it couldn't hurt. so far, so good.
