2.5" Rock Krawler Lift, 33" vs 35", and 15" wheels

Hey all, recently I purchased a set of Mickey Thompson 33/70R15 Baja ATZ tires from a friend in order to help him out (he bought them for his ZJ and decided that he simply couldn't trim his bumper/fender) with the intent of selling them (even already put them on the market place on here.)

However, I've begun to entertain the thought of simply running them with the build I'm beginning (2.5" RK stock mod, 2.0 Fox Evolution Shocks, and TF shock extensions.) I've never considered a 33" tire, and I know that running a 15" wheel on a JK is far from easy and something I swore I would never do.

That being said, are there suitable 15" wheels for the JK that would allow for no caliper issues and provide me with enough backspace to properly run the lift? Any experience with this? Also, feelings on 33" vs 35"? Never even crossed my mind, but now that they're sitting in my living room, I've begun giving it some thought.

- Mat

33" vs 35" - I'm 98% convinced I'm going to run a set of 33x10 (ok, 255/80R17) KM2s once I've saved up my pennies for them. 35" will wait until I've reinforced the front axle, regeared and probably done the Terraflex brake upgrade. That's a lot more pennies.

Options there to run RK 1.5 coils. If you do something like the Max travel all you would need to do is either trim, swap for 2.5's and adjust the arms/track bar.

There are a few 15's that are used regularly on JK's. The Level 8 Tracker for example... The key is that they have to have an extra inch of backspacing over what you would use for a 16 or larger to clear the brakes and tie rod ends. Do you mind a little extra wide track look? Some do and some don't.

On your Stock Mod, that is typically a lift that is used as a starting point since there is a number of other parts needed to properly complete it. Have you got the rest of the build list done yet?

Looking for the same answer as him, but what is the magic number for the 15 inch wheel when it comes to back spacing? 3.5? 4.5?

I don't think here is a "magic" number as different wheels can have different clearances on the drum.

However, it seems that 3.75's usually fit.

Good luck.

This is very true.

My synergy tie rod who not fit w/ my 15's.
Others did not have a issue. My wheels had a smaller ID.

Do you have your bumpstops and sway bar links figured out?

Yes, not sure why I typed sway links there... Was thinking about brake line brackets. Typically, you get more than advertised from RK springs.

Cheers.

I have to disagree on this. Running 35s with stock axels, driveshaft, sway bars, also Dana 44s are not built to hold that heavy of a tire , as well as the fact that you have to regear, plus the list goes on. Your looking at about 2000$ just to run 35s (the right way without future damage). Now idk about other people but "Paul Miller" you live in a big city, that being said you probably don't go offroading like the rest of us. If your like me, I go almost everyday, because well I drive a jeep, and if you go offroading and don't buy after marker axels, etc, your going to be spending a lot more money in the long run. My advice to the forum, is to take your time, get the money and do it right the first time.

Discount Tire has several 15’s that fit. MB TKO and MB Chaos are two. They are both 4.5 bs as I remember. It's not hard to run 15’s, there are quite a few options out there. And with 33's, the 15’s look great.

I'm running 33s with 15" Pacer Soft 8 wheels.
I did have to grind a little off the front calipers but it only took five minutes of grinding on each side to eliminate to rub.

The MB's are 3.75 BS. I have not seen a 15" with 4.5 BS that will work on a JK. Doesn't mean they don't exist. That extra BS needed isn't appealing to me... I like the profile, just not the BS options.

I wish someone made a C tire in 33 and 35 for 16's, that would be FULL of win for JK owners. Anyone tire mfg's listening??

I have 33s with 15s and love them! I put 5 of the black MB wheels on my Red Tj, and they look great!

StarBrite runs 33's on 15" MB TKO's, I believe. Search for "Celticon" and check out her build thread.

Did you install the lift yet? I'm interested to see how the 33's look with the 2.5 RK.

Here is my RK 2.5 stock mod w/ 33's. It'll work for now. I'm looking at 35's and flat fenders in the next few months.

I have installed the lift...if you click on the link in my signature you can pics/vid of the Jeep pre and post-op. Very satisfied with the quality of the RK components, definitely worth the leadtime wait.

I actually was able to unload the 33" Mickey's for a profit and actually just picked up at set up 35" "new" Fun Countries...they seem like they're the perfect tire for my needs, so as soon as I get them mounted and wheel them a bit/highway, I'll post a review as it seems that not many people have this tire yet.

2.5" RK X factor. Netted about 3.5-4" total. Uppers were a bit of a pain to measure out and wedges didn't quite take the bow out of the coils but extremely happy with the flex and quality of RK's parts.

I'm still working on getting my passenger front coil seated properly to eliminate bow...don't think we have much to worry about in regards to damage from what I hear
