Question 2007 gremlins

I haven't gone thru all the threads - but, is there anything new about getting rid of the electrical gremlins in the '07 Sahara ? It seems that I have more showing up every couple of days.

Just make sure you keep it out of bright sunlight, and never, no matter how much you're empty, NEVER give it gas after midnight.

On topic: I have an 08' and I haven't run into any electrical problems yet.

bleu....I'm assuming that you've just purchased the Jeep. Even though there WERE a few electrical problems with the 07 model change, they should have been worked out by now. Yours are probably the result of something that the previous owner did.

From the threads that I've seen. It seems like the lights on the power window switches burning out early and the horn stopping working are the biggest things.

Some of my '07 Sahara problems:

1) Keyless entry stopped working. I've changed the battery and still, nothing. Relatively new issue.

2) When I open the door manually with the key, the alarm often screams at me. Relatively new issue.

3) When I turn the key to start, nothing happens - dead silence. I turn the key again and it fires right up. Very new issue.

4) After #3 occurs, the clock on the radio resets.

5) As I am driving down the road, for no apparent reason, the electical system shuts down, but the engine continues to run. In about a second or two, the dash lights up like the 4th of July, with the seat belt notification chiming as if the engine had just started. Relatively new issue.

6) When I turn the key and remove it from the ignition, the engine continues to run for about 3-5 seconds. Very new issue.

I've been told by a dealership that the electrical system recall has been addressed, so now what ?

Help, please.

i'd press the issue at the dealer, tell him its a safety issue and you want in writing their refusal to address the concerns that way when the thing cuts out at highway speeds and you hit you can come back with a lawyer in tow. generally when you put things like that on the table dealers tend to see the light. sorry your having such bad luck, maybe look into the lemon laws

I have seen #5 in my 07 sport twice in the 2 years I owned it. Sounds almost like you have a worn ignition switch, how many keys do you have hanging on your key chain?

I have 5 keys (including the Jeep key), and they are hanging on a belt-clip key chain. I've been talking to some people I work with and someone asked if the previous owner had installed a remote starter. All the wiring could have been screwed up during installation or when it was uninstalled. I don't know if there was a remote start, but does anyone think that could be a cause of the troubles ?

#5 was a problem right from the beginning. I thought by now that would have been fixed in all the Wranglers.

#3 and 4 could possibly be a dying battery. That COULD be affecting your other problems too. A weakened battery can do some weird stuff in these complex electrical setups. That's where I would start.

Another thing to try is to be sure the IOD fuse is firmly placed in the fuse box.

It is the fuse in the fuse box under the hood that has a white collar around it. Those of us who towed the 2007 had to pull this fuse rather than disconnecting the battery to shut down the dash lights so that the battery would not run down. The engine could be started with the fuse pulled but would run a few seconds after the switch was turned off. It would also cause the clock to require resetting after the fuse was pulled.

Another thing to check is that the dealer did not install an after market security system. My 2007 had one that I was not told about when I bought the Jeep new (it was a dealer trade and the original dealer put them on all their new products). It had a short in it and would cause symptoms similar to the ones you describe. I had my dealer remove and throw it away.

Just a thought and good luck. Chasing gremlins is never a fun activity!
