Hi everyone, I just recently went to get my 2011 inspected. As i pulled out of the inspection station after PASSING inspection, I went to put on my blinker and my whole dashboard lit up with lights, lights i have never seen before. the words "no bus" was on the dashboard. i pulled over and tried to turn the car off and pulled the key out and the car kept running. drove right back into the DMV and told everybody and they said they never saw anything like this before. Car still running with my keys in my hand as im filling out an incident report and one of the guys comes in to tell me its smoking now. Apparently, my mechanic said, because the computer was shot the fan didnt know to come on and she started to over heat. HELP what the hell happened? shes at the shop now, im waiting tio hear the news... what did DMV do to cause the shortage in my computer?
DMV didn't do it. All their equipment does is to check/determine if your On Board Diagnostics system regarding emissions is "ready". It doesn't harm or change programming. You can have a defective PCM/TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module).
Please make sure to post up what the dealer comes up with. I'm curious to hear what happens. Seems pretty coincidental to not be a problem caused by the DMV hooking up their gear. Probably no way to prove it even if it was caused by the DMV.
im still waiting to hear the prognosis. The car is only 5 years old, im trying to search around to see if there were any recalls or if anyone else had their computer seize after 5 years- 100K miles. im not under warranty but it still seems too new of a car to have a major component go like that. I will keep you posted...
Thank you both for your info.
Potential Chrysler Recall List for TIPM
Although no recall has been issued yet in relation to the TIPM malfunctions, the NHTSA is considering investigating more than 4.9 million vehicles for this problem. The 2010 to 2014 Wrangler is on the list of affected Chrysler vehicles.
