2012- P0430 Cat converters and 02 sensors need replaced

2012 unlimited sport, auto. My check engine light came on today and it showed code P0430. I took it to the dealership and they ran diagnostics and said it needs a new cat converter and new 02 sensors. I have 53,000 miles on the vehicle. Converter is covered under warranty but 02 sensors are not since they are considered electrical.

Doesn't this seem early for the converter to go? What could have caused the converter to go bad? Do i possibly have a bad head unit that may have caused it. Im doubting the dealership will do anything to check that since it didn't show that code, short of having me pay for a leak down test which may or may not be positive.

Also, has anyone else had this on their 2012 or newer?

Anything other than a bad head unit I should be looking for? Cats dont just go bad on their own. I am interested to see the dealerships take on why this occured.

I know they have done the flash updates under TSB a couple years ago and if it is a bad head that might be how it lasted this long- 53K when most of them were failing under 18K. It doesnt explain why the computer didnt show any of the bad head unit codes.

Also, it was not running or idling rough or making any abnormal ticking noises up until the check engine light came on.

Dealer claims it just went bad. Wouldnt do a leak down since it didnt show a misfire code. Time will tell. Ive got 5 years left on the head warranty. I will ask to keep the old converter and take it apart to see whats up.

You should check and make sure the 02 Sensors aren't part of the Federal Emissions Warranty before you pay out any money. I'm not sure of the exact details of the law but I know a few people who had them replaced over the years under that warranty. It has nothing to do with the vehicle warranty itself.

Bad O2 sensors could cause the cat to fail. Surprised you didn't get a light first though. I neglected to change a faulty O2 sensor once and it ruined the Cat.

The 02 sensors were ok but they said they like to change them whenever they do a new cat or it can wreck the 02. They took the core cat for sending to chrysler so i didn't get to keep it
