Wikipedia is often wrong Again I am relatively sure I am correct as I was going to do the same and did a lot of research and the dana/spicer supplier told me the break on the front D30 was 3.54 and the D44 was good to go.
I know for a fact wik is wrong on the 3.73 break right off the bat
The above PDF will show you (looking at the chart) that there is no break on the D44 in the JK. I didn't realize that the gears in the JK are cut thicker and can use the 3 series carrier on all gear ratios. Of course this is not true for D30. Also note that this is likely not true for non JK D44's (didn't research fully)
Just a word of warning..If you have an automatic, and decide to put a locker in the rear you CAN NOT use:
Detroit
Yukon Grizzly
These are auto lockers and will throw your tranny in to limp mode randomly. It happens during turns or going around corners when the auto locker rachets(locks and unlocks). confuses the TC and the tranny.
I had to switch to a selectable locker. The front doesnt matter due to the sensor config.
Thanks for the advice from all! And special thanks to gorillahydrographics for the warning about the rear lockers. I would likely get another ARB Air Locker for the rear if I do it at all. I am concerned about how the computer would handle it. For my use, I'm pretty sure I will leave the Dana 44 with just the new gears. Again Thanks
