2014 JK and five trips to two different dealers

and no one can fix the problem

Whenever I use the key fob to open or close the locks on my JK, the horn will blow steadily for 16 seconds. If i leave the JK unlocked, the horn will go off as soon as I open or close the door. Also, the horn no longer works using the button on the steering wheel.

On occasion, when this happening none of the steering wheel electronics, other than the cruise control, will work. That includes the left side steering wheel menu button and reset, or any of the controls on the rear of the steering wheel.

The JK is a stock Sport. I had a blue tooth added when I purchased the vehicle in November 2013. This started after that installation.I also had a hard top installed (the electronics) but again, this problem started before that but only intermittently.

I have been to two different dealers near my home in SW Missouri. (I bought the JK at a dealer near my home No IL). The first one just removed the two horn fuses and wished me luck as i could not leave it with them. I have made four trips to the second dealer. On the first trip they ordered and then installed a 'horn module' replacement. That didn't work so they order a cruise control. They installed that and everything was fine for a week and when it started again. I brought it back, they spoke to the factory and then told me it was known issue and they replaced the cruise control again.
That one lasted two weeks and then it happened again. I called the dealer back and was told to leave a message for the service adviser to call me back.
That didn't happen.
So, I am dropping it off back at the dealer that sold it to me in Illinois today.

Because I have to make four documented visits for a repairs to document a "lemom" complaint, that will begin today.

I really like my Wrangler (it is my third) but if I can't use it it is worthless to me.

Anyone have any similar experiences or have suggestions?

TIA!

Dang dude, thats unfortunate.

I wish I knew more about the JK electronics.

I would definitely go through with the Lemon law complaint.

Keep us posted.

It's a long shot, but I suggest unplugging your negative battery terminal wire for a couple minutes and reconnecting to reset everything.

Sounds like your bluetooth install is suspect if that does not get it.

Since it started after the Bluetooth installation I would have that disconnected and see if the problem goes away.

My dealer did those yesterday (battery disconnect and the blue tooth install) and the problem still persists. They determined the fault is occuring because of the instrument cluster so they are replacing that. It was ordered yesterday and they are planning on having it done today.

So, one horn module, two cruise control modules and now an instrument cluster replacement.

Stay tuned, the odyssey continues

Since the horn doesn't work properly using the button on the steering wheel it is a safety issue. I'd stick to the dealer you bought it from and start reading up on your state lemon law. The fact that it is a safety issue for yourself, other vehicles, and pedestrians, you should be able to seek recourse through the lemon law. If they can't fix it in the allotted visits or time period set by the law I would pursue it. Hopefully it doesn't go the lemon law route. Good luck!

I made two trips in with same problem. Horn Switch, Speed control (2) and finally main cluster. 2014 JK. More Chrysler quality issues!

Horn stopped working, but blast non-stop when I unlock Jeep

Trying not to over-link, but check the links I posted in this post, there are some that have repair info that might help you.

Yup…happened to me on my ’13 JK. All of a sudden, every time I unlocked my JK with the fob, key or even opened the unlocked door, the horn would go off for exactly 30 seconds. Embarrassing to say the least. I would come out of wherever I was and hit the unlock button when I was far as away as the signal reached and then waited for a few moments. Had to do that for three days until I could get it back to the dealer. What you have is a wiring harness short in the steering column. Dealer fixed it in 2 ˝ hours.

Just to update

It has been two weeks since the selling dealer did their repairs. When I brought it in, they decided to disconnect each component to see when the horn would stop going off. They ended up disconnecting everything on the steering wheel and it still occured so that process of elimination indicated that it was being caused by the instrument cluster. They ordered a new one, installed it two weeks ago so far, everything works great.

But, I am knocking on wood as I post this.

Hope that takes care of it for good for you, that issue would be extremely annoying to everybody around.

My 2012 JK is in the shop for the 3rd time for this exact problem as we speak and mine was caused by absolutely no modifications on my part. First they replaced the horn switch, then the module, and then after replacing the horn itself today they have the steering column torn apart looking for a short. If this happens for a 4th time after I supposedly get it back tomorrow I'll be sure to tell them about the instrument cluster. If that doesn't fix it we might just have to go the Lemon Law route ourselves as that will be 4 repairs.

Instrument cluster change fixed my problem. Tech there told me everything runs through cluster, even odometer. It is a non-Chrysler part which has to be programmed with data. Took about 5 days to get done. The key for me was finding a competent dealer service shop. The original dealer changed out a variety of switches and parts without recognizing the source of the problem.
