2014 JKU hood bouncing?

Took a drive with the family today and was doing about 60 on the highway.. Some wind was blowing at us and my hood started bouncing (would actually lift up a bit and slam down). I was not comfortable at all with it. I could see the rubber straps were intact and hoped the hood latch was there for a backup.. I checked it out afterwards and I could barely move the hood while in place.

Was this just a freak alignment of time/place/speed and wind? Have the jk hood straps been known to fail? Had 5 other wranglers and never had this happen. The closest was a TJ with stupid aftermarket locks and one came up- but it didn't seem to be as scary.

All I could think of is the movie tommy boy.

Hood flutter is common. I've never heard of the latches failing. You can get some better hood latches, or some say they have fixed it by removing the hood spring.

It won't fly up on you. I removed my air dam and had it. Removing the spring worked for me. I bought the daystar hood wranglers to fix it, but I didn't need them after the spring removal.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't classify this as a flutter, but if it's somewhat normal I guess I will live with it. It literally was banging as it went down. Although it may have only been moving about 1/4-1/2".

My wife and I were on the Interstate running with traffic about 70-80 mph. Along the way we occasionally hit winds coming straight into us and hard. Between the combination of our speed and the wind speed, our 2014 JKUR hood was fluttering so bad it was like it was on vibrate mode. It literally fluttered so bad it appeared as if the center of the hood was bending in the middle and bouncing up and down....Oddly, the front of the hood never gave the appearance of being loose. It was more like the outer edges were all solid but the middle had not support at all and was bouncing up and down.

Scared my wife to death. I had read about hood flutter on this forum and still it was so bad I took the next exit and checked my hood latches just in case.

The flutter can be rather intense. lol

Had the same problem when I had the air deflector off. Re installed the air deflector and flutter is not as bad.

The Daystar hood wranglers are great. Easy to install and work! I can drive down the highway at 70 now and not a bit of hood movement even when passing 18 wheelers. Cheap insurance and peace of mind for me.

My hood would come up and max out on the center catch, not just a little flutter, it was very disturbing and I did not like it at all. I bought the rugged ridge all aluminum hood latches and it is rock solid now.
