So, I picked up a set of shocks and springs off of a two-door 2014 Willy's Jeep in hopes to install it them on my two-door 2013 Wrangler Sport. Problem is I cannot find anything online that says I will get more lift.
My factory shocks are black and the Willy's shocks are red. I am hoping to add a little lift for the Irok ND's I just bought.
Since the Willy's has black painted Rubicon wheels and tires, my thinking is that they also share the same suspension and I will get an inch or two in lift. Please help.
It all depends on the coils numbers going on and replaced. Last 2 numbers on the tags ... Look at them.
Lower numbers mean shorter/softer rates. For example 13/53
Higher numbers mean longer/firmer rates. For example 19/59
If (example) 14/54's are replacing 13/53's = 0 gain.
I've heard of up to 2" going from the lowest numbers available to the highest (Mopar direct) 19/60's.
The red Rubicon shocks are a nice upgrade over black sports.
If you could, please take a look at this thread and post your findings for me .... Thanks
I'm a Newbie to the forum and have '14 WW JK... When I bought it, I was told the WW came with a 1" lift like the Rubicon. I checked my springs as the earlier posts suggest and it appears I have 14/56's, which would appear more like the stock Sport. I do have the Red shocks that come on the Rubicon. Is there something else besides the Springs that would be different in the suspensions between Sport / Willys / Rubi? All the Jeep info I could find says the Willys had "Performance Suspension" that is standard but not the same as the Sport or Rubi. Any intel you can share would be appreciated.
Read the link in post 3. Spring numbers are really about the only difference between Jeeps, the Rubicon also gets a different shock. There's also a difference in the 10A Jeep springs, and here's the thread regarding the height gains for them.
Neither Willys Wheelers or Rubicons come with a 1" lift, or any lift at all. So they misled you. I wouldn't sweat it.
There are two primary components to concern yourself with:
1) Springs. Look above for a little info. Basically, though, any Jeep can have any spring rates on it. A higher rate will sit a bit higher, all things being equal. Rubicons, Sports, WW, Saharas... all the same springs.
2) Shocks. These are different. Sports come with black shocks. Rubicons and WW come with uprated ones that are red, Saharas are uprated and, uh... aren't black or red.
You have a WW edition? Same shock as the Rubi. Springs, check the last two numbers. You can find higher rated spring than yours, maybe. If there's a big difference you may see some small lift from it.
Thanks for the help Lusus. I guess I didn't really have a lift over stock. I've been trying to figure out if I put a 2.5" RE lift if I would only really get 1.5" or the full 2.5". This helps... I think. lol
Likewise, I just picked up some 2015 rubicon shocks and coils (18/60) for my 2014 sport. But I neglected to get any other parts not thinking I would need them. Do I need the traveling arms? Or anything else for that matter?
