Question 2014 Wrangler MIL light

I have a 2014 Wrangler Rubicon (4500 miles.) I have had the MIL come on several times. A dealer we took it to (we're traveling) cleared the code (cylinder 3 misfire) and said they could find nothing wrong. In about 150 miles it is on again. Today I disconnected the battery and the light is now off. I'm not sure that a power off reset should clear out the codes so am very concerned that the computer is ill. We are more than 1000 miles from home and over 100 miles to the nearest dealer.

Anyone have any helpful suggestions other than getting out the shovel and start digging a big hole?

Thank you,

Alan Brandt

Did they all come one during 1 tank of fuel or over multiple fill ups?

Well that rules out the simple explanation.

Well the good news is it is the right cylinder head, and not the left. It could be a bad coil pack, or a coil pack about to fail, along with a few other issues. The computer could be bad as well. What exactly did they do to arrive at the determination that nothing is wrong? Did they do a cylinder leak down test, check the plug and coil pack, check the computer itself? Just the fact that the light came on means something is wrong, the light doesn't come on for no reason. I'd start my trip home, being aware of where the next dealer is all the time. If the light comes on get to another dealer. I know how you feel, good luck!

Don't disconnect the battery. It serves no purpose. If the MIL comes on, it's for a reason. Take it back to the dealer and let them find out what is wrong. The fact that the MIL is illuminating means there IS something wrong. It's their job to determine what it is. You could have a lemon on your hands. Each time you take it to the dealer for the same problem which goes unresolved is a hit against them. Ensure they document the diagnostic trouble code and what the technician did or attempted to do to resolve the problem. Keep taking it back until they find out what it is. After so many attempts with an unresolved problem, consult your state's lemon law for recourse.
