I had a 2013 JKU Sahara with the Alpine.
I'm in the market for a 2016 and noticed that the subwoofer is in a new location.
Does that move remove any of the storage that used to exist in the container below the rear deck?

Did it improve the sound at all?

Thank you. Sorry if these are dumb questions, but my search didn't turn up the answer.

No more storage in the floor.

It sounds amazing 1000x better than before.

Sound doesnt detract much eith a rubner floor mat over it and storage stuff on it. Still has good thump. Its a great setup a must have honestly.

Subwoofer sounds fantastic even though my buddies think I have lost some low frequency hearing which might be explained by the powerful sub at 1/3 power. I miss the small hidden storage area and wish they could have mounted it on the flat spot around the rollbar above the wheelwells.

I wasn't looking for the premium sound when I bought my 16 JKU. I had driven a couple of 13s and 14s with the premium sound and wasn't impressed. Long story short the one I bought had premium sound in it and now I'm glad I got it. I really do like the sub and it is much better than the previous version. There is no storage in the floor, but most people complained about how much storage area the old sub location took up. I would recommend the premium sound. If you're a geek like me you can watch the 40 minute video from one of the Alpine designers that explains how much detail went into the design of the system and matching it to the Wrangler.

Have the premium audio package and I've been considering swapping the 430N unit out. There are aspects of it I hate.

- Very sluggish connecting to iPhone and the volume difference between streamed audio and radio can't be tweak AFAIK. I'm constantly blaring the radio when I restart (ya, ya: first world problems).
- Listening to streamed audio with the ignition off and starting the Jeeps drops the streamed audio connection and it takes a long time to re-establish. I suspect even aftermarket ones may due that as there's likely a power drop.
- The screen resolution is horrible. The Nav is hard to look at. Annoying you can't change your destination while rolling too... I have a passenger that can do that safely.
- Sirrius quality sucks. I suspect that's not the headunit's fault though ... more like the low-quality audio bitstream. I won't be extending the subscription for sure.
- Uninspired integration of audio metadata. Why do I have to hit buttons to find out who this is. I see other headsets that show information in a much more thought-out UI.

I do like the integration and would not want to lose that if I changed. Not sure if aftermarket ones can put info on the dash displays like the stock one does. I'm assuming steering wheel controls are straight-forward wire in's.

Anyone know what integrated features are lost when changing to an aftermarket head-unit? I've been eyeballing some of the high-end Kenwood units.
