2nd front pinion leak

Did a regear late last year. A few months ago I noticed some fluid under the jeep and found the pinion was leaking. Had the seal replace at that time.

Was just under the rig and notice a very small amount of fluid under the pinion on the bottom side of the diff.

Did I just get a bad install? Should I just get it replace again or does this indicate a bigger issue?

Nope. A fellow jeeper manages the shop that did the new seal. Figured I'd get them to do it again for free and just see what happens.

Bump.

Getting the work redone this week under warranty by the shop that did the work.

If this crops up again what are my options? (Other than replacing the seal every 3-4 months)

My guess is an incorrect install. The crush sleeve can be a tricky run down, even for old guys, (myself included). I'd check on the availability of a crush sleeve eliminator. I'll do that if the rebuild I did for the kid's rig starts leaking again. The sleeve is what establishes preload. Getting it wrong will usually show up when the preload works loose and the front pinion bearing is now loose.

Thanks. This will be my 3rd time replacing the seal. First two was done at two different shops as the first shop no longer exists.

I'm hoping it is just a case of bad installs.

At the shop now. Hopefully this is the last time I have to deal with this. If it leaks again will have to research a plan B.

Mechanic said it was leaking around the housing so he applied some caulk to it after the new seal was out in.

Still no leaks after a few days. Will continue to monitor.
