Hey everyone. A buddy of mine has a 2001 Dakota r/t with the 5.9 v8 magnum. Well he has bought a 408 to put in his truck. Now...
Is it possible or has anyone put one of the 5.9 magnums in a jk? If I can get the motor for the low what else would I need to be looking at prices of. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need a ton of custom stuff to do an engine swap. And if you can't fabricate it yourself, you're going to pay through the nose for it.

If the engine doesn't come with the computer and wiring harness I would recommend you walk away. In the end it would be cheaper and easier to get a junkyard Hemi from a Grand Cherokee. At least with a Hemi you can buy a kit to make the swap cheaper and easier.

It would probably be a nightmare in terms of electronics getting an old (relatively speaking) V8 to work with the JK electronics. Also, some states with emissions testing won't like having an engine that is older than your model year.

The Pentastar's horsepower is all in the top end where you don't use it. It's completely gutless below 2,000 RPM. The 5.9 has a ton of torque down low where you need it. But it's more hassle than it's worth to swap it in. The Hemi is a much better option in every way if you're going to swap in a V8. But a good roots style supercharger is the most cost effective way to get power where you need it.

Check on-line, I think this swap has been in one of the Jeep magazines in the last couple years... Also there is at least one company that will rewire your harness so everything communicates.... Not sure the company name but I'm sure others here know or you can find em listed in the various swap articles on line or in the Magazines....."BH"
