I'm getting close to my first tire rotation and have never done a 5 tire rotation on any of my vehicles. I'm concerned that the computer will not know which tire is in which location and will give me the low pressure warning with the spare on an axle. Is this the case, do I need to do anything special when I rotate them?
You don't have to do anything special. I've done 5-tire rotation since new (2013 JKUR). They computer will figure out which tire is in which location after you drive for awhile. I'm sure you'll check all the pressures. If the computer detects a low pressure and you fill it after the computer "sees" that the pressure is low you'll have to drive for a while (maybe 20 miles-ish) for it to reset and be happy again. If your spare is ever low, the Jeep won't show a low pressure warning.
Nothing special. Just rotate. Computer will pick up TPMS. Just did mine a month ago without any problems. In fact, my right rear usually read one PSI lower than the rest and now it's the front right as would be expected.
A Premium Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) determines the location of the tire pressure sensors by using transponders located in three of the four wheel wells on the vehicle. A fourth transponder is not necessary in the remaining wheel well due to the process of elimination theory. Once the system knows the location of the first three sensors, it assumes the location of the fourth tire pressure sensor, and update the graphic display when necessary.
Just be aware this self learning feature is unique to Chrysler. To the best of my knowledge, most other manufacturers do this system poorly and you have to do a learn procedure.
