ACE Rear Bumper/Tire Carrier Install Help

If any one has experience with this and can chime in, I installed the pro series rear bumper with tire carrier and I cant get the carrier bar to line up with the nylon block on the gate plate. The bar is a 1/4in too high and is rattling bad when I hit bumps. I have the gate plate adjusted all the way up, as well as the nylon block. ACE offered to make me a new gate plate but Im wondering if there is anything else wrong that I could fix myself. Everything else seems to be lined up and tight.

Thanks

I had the same issue. Adjust the turn buckle to bring it in closer. Once you get it adjusted it will pull the bar into the nylon block and no more rattle.

Was your bar also much higher than the nylon block? Mine is at least 1/4" too high to cradle itself inside the block. Thanks.

My bar was probably 1/8 to 3/16 off. Once you adjust it, it will pull into the nylon block.

Sort of glad to hear im not the only one. Im not sure what you mean as far as adjusting the bar with the eyes in it? Can you elaborate? When I adjust both the gate plate and block as high as they go, they are still 1/4" too low from the bar. I appreciate the help.

He is talking about the turn buckle. Just keep adjusting it a little at a time until it sits where it is supposed to when closed.

Well guys I adjusted heim joint closer and all that does is push my tailgate up when I try to close it due to upward pressure from the bar on the nylon block. To the point where gate wont latch. The bar is simply not lined up. Not sure where to go from here. Probably drive to ace since they're 2 hours away. Shouldn't have this problem for this caliber of bumper.

There is a video on the ACE site if that helps you. You may have watched it already but if not it may save you a ride.

What type of shackle will fit on the bumper recovery point. I guess I am wondering what diameter is of the hole?
Also, what are you going to do with the 3rd brake light? I am seriously considering this bumper. Good Luck.

Stryker, it looks like you need to call Ace. I am surprised you are having an issue as mine fit fine. Even the best of companies have an off day. I am sure they will send a new one asap. I have been very happy with mine now that I have it adjusted correctly.

yea heim joint.. I actually had to cut the rubber holding the vent on my tailgate to move the tailgate plate as high as i could .. I have got there front stubby and the rear pro. I have had issues with both .. front weld issues and fog light issues. and they rather blew me off about the front so when I had an issue with the rear i made it work.. i just kept adjusting the joint till when it closed it was up tight and where is suppose to be.

good luck with your issue.. hope they correct it for you.

What did they change? I have the same bumper and no issues here.

I had the same issue with mine. They sent me a new tailgate plate that had allows it to line up better. Good service.
The bumper still rattles. Need to try to adjust again.
Both lights in bumper have moisture behind the lens. The light company swapped one out already, at no cost, but now I have 2 that have the same issue. Poor seals. And it is such a PITA to swap them out. Must remove the complete bumper. Ugh.

They put a new tire carrier and gate plate on. So not sure exactly which component was the culprit. Lines up perfect now and no rattles.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone have security concerns for getting the spare ripped off by scumbags? I know that anything is possible and I do use the locking gorilla lugs but it appears that the ACE tire holder can be disassembled easily from the backside with simple hand tools. I dont have direct experience but am I incorrect? Would it be easy to steal a tire from the holder with a socket set? I really want one so I am quite interested in these discussions. Thanks again.

Here's what I did:

Take your center cap, wire in red LEDs, and plug them in!

Center cap custom LED brake light

Take note that the first try I made on this, I did not know LEDs needed resistors. Buy red LEDs that are pre-wired to run on 12vDC. I love the look, and they are really bright!

well dam.. Good thing I didn't buy them yet. I guess i will be looking for different lights then. I can't see having to take that bumper off several times.. I will have to do it once just to install the lights. After that i don't want to have to touch it..

Good luck to them getting that carrier off the bumper inconspicuously - it took me two guys & a sledgehammer to get it on!

I don't think it's an easy feat to steal it, but I don't live anywhere where that would be a concern so what do I know?
