Advice

Hi all,

I am new to the forum.

I bought my 2011 Unlimited Sport earlier this year and now am looking to do some upgrading. For all intents and purposes this is a daily driver, and will see minimal actual offroad use, but would like some capability where that is concerned. Not terribly worried about Fuel Efficiency, more worried about losing power via upgrades. I also plan to run a 7500 or so lb Winch on a new SmittyBuilt Bumper.

I spoke with a local shop with a good reputation.

I asked him what kit he would recommend as I would like to go with a 4" lift and 35" tires. I also inquired about the need for driveshaft and/or gear replacement.

He responded that for $1200 the shop would include and install a Rough Country 4" Kit, about $600 when I priced it. He said no drive shafts are needed and I would want a dual steering stabilizer. That kit, installation and alignment would be included in pricing. I would be purchasing my own wheels and tires. He said as well that there would be no need for a gear change, that I could go with a Bully Dog Tuner for an additional $500 to recover lost RPMs and Sync the Speedometer to new tires.

The questions I have are:
1) Is he correct in that I don't need a new drive shaft?
2) Is his pricing within a reasonable range?
3) Will the Kit he suggested make my ride too stiff (I want to retain some comfort)
4) Can that same kit handle my future winch?
5) Is he correct in his recommendation regarding the Bullydog Tuner? (Seems too easy)
6)Then concerning wheels, I am thinking of 17" as my tire options get more expensive the higher I go. I'd like to have the aggressive look with tires protruding out maybe 1" to 2" out beyond the fender. What backspacing should I be looking at?

I am sure I could dig through 500 forum posts and find some answers to some of the questions, but I thought it best to ask them all in one place.

I appreciate any help I can get.

The questions I have are:
1) Is he correct in that I don't need a new drive shaft? No , you need a front drive shaft
2) Is his pricing within a reasonable range? No over priced for that lift
3) Will the Kit he suggested make my ride too stiff (I want to retain some comfort) yes , but that is because of the shocks
4) Can that same kit handle my future winch? Yes
5) Is he correct in his recommendation regarding the Bullydog Tuner? (Seems too easy) no , you will need to regear and pick up a procal

Wheels are a hit and miss with me , but most guys say stay under/around 4.5 , my wheels are 3.75 and I don't think they stick out that far
