Advise needed!

I currently own a 2009 Wrangler X Unlimited. I almost have it paid off, but I have 84,700 miles on it. I love the jeep, but I really want to upgrade to something like a moab or a '11 or '12 Rubi for the locking rear differential. I don't necessarily want to sell mine because again, it is almost paid off and although the miles seem high, I have taken fantastic care of the engine and know I can prob get another 150-200k miles on it with routine maintenance.

My question is this.. am I able to keep the X Unlimited I have now and put a locking rear diff on it for a reasonable price or should I sell the one I have before I get to 90k miles on it and reinvest in a newer model with the locking rear diff that comes standard?

My advice to you would be to keep your current Wrangler if you are happy with it. If you want a rear locker, I would advise you to get a selectable one like ARB.

Definitely keep yours and get a rear locker. That is unless you want the new engine too.

You should be able to get into a rear selectable locker for about 1500 installed. Much cheaper that a new jeep.

Even find some Rubicon take offs and install them. Fairly simple to wire up a switch for them. Still come out ahead.

OP, I would go drive a new Rubicon. If you like the way it drives and handles, then get a quote on the difference, between your's and a new one. Then make your own decision based on your findings, and finances.........

Yes. As mentioned, you could put lockers in your jeep for about $1500 per axle.

However, the 2012+ JKR also comes with an incredible engine upgrade, and if you get the automatic transmission its a huge upgrade also! Not to mention the automatic sway bar disconnect button and both the front and rear lockers. Not to mention the Rubicon stickers...

Food for thought. Good luck with your decision!

I agree with this route...plus with the new model around the corner do you really want to get another JK when you don't know what they have cooked up? Especially if they go Diesel

let me echo what's already been said! keep your rig. buy a locker. many good selectable lockers out there. ARB was mentioned, OX and Eaton are others.

and when you've paid off your rig - then go buy another newer one if you like. two jeeps are always better than one. perhaps you make one more of a trail rig?
