I installed my aev 2.5 Dualsport with geo brackets this weekend. I noticed on the install that the new bracket that you install for the swaybar links are exactly the same for both sides. My link on the passenger side is crooked installed. I have a noise when I turn hard left on passenger side. I believe the instructions said to bolt the brackets to inside axle tab. Here's pics of left and right side. Should the passgenger side bracket be on the other side of tab?
I bought new rear links from Quadratec and used them in place of the brackets on my AEV 2 1/2" Dual Sport might be something you want to look into i think they were only $40ish for the pair
The instructions never said anything about new end links, I did some research on here and never read anything about buying new end links. I have no problem getting new end links just that I'm in Canada so it's a bit of a pain in the ass crossing border to get over to the shipping place. So the new end links just bolt to the normal tab? I assume they're longer links?
You mean lower control arm bolts? If so, do that. It won't fix the sway links being crooked, but it will remove suspension preload that could lead to death wobble in the future. After you loosen them, jump around on the bumpers so everything settles in, then tighten the hell out of them.
go to the AEV forum and search sway bar link brackets. I bitched about them and it is common but the heavy hitters say it is normal and nothing to worry about. I actually live right down the road from the AEV test facility and stopped in and sure as shit that is how they all look.
As far as the stock tracbar goes, an adjustable would be the optimum choice. Depending on how much your rig weighs, your axle will shift. A very heavy front end will have less lift and won't take it far off. If you still have the factory bumper and no winch, you will have more lift. An adjustable bar will allow you to adjust as things change and more mods are done. Most basic kits have only what is a must, in order to keep price down and manufacturers know that many people may want to choose a different part than they might supply.
That clunk you hear is the Tie rod clamp hitting the bracket. A few of us had the same problem. All you need to do is loosen the nut and turn the clamp up a bit. Check out this thread.
I recommend buying a set of Teraflex rear links for 2-4in lift, move the stock rear links to the front, toss the AEV brackets in your scap metal bin.. :happyyes:
Appreciate the info. I've ordered the terraflex adjustable track bar. I am running spacers on my stock wheels. I'll probably switch the links out once I get everything buttoned down. Tires will be here for my new rims Tuesday. I can't wait. I'm loving this thing.
Best thing is to get some quick disconnects, you'll want them eventually anyway. I'm very happy with my lift but the brackets are just plain stupid. My axle is only off 1/8th inch or so, still running with the stock trackbar.
you have it put on wrong side of the bracket. i had the same issue when i installed mine. you are right they are the same piece but the passenger side one is off center and " clunking" because you have it mounted on the wrong side.
switch the sway bar link over to the left side of the bracket and then it should be straight.
at least that looks to be the problem from your pictures.
ill try to snag a picture of my lift (aev 2.5") tomorrow afternoon. i had some trouble with that also lol. more so with trying to get the stock front sway bar to line up again after the lift.
oh and btw for everyone who's posted, AEV says that it is OK to re use the stock front track bar and does not include a replacement for the front in the kit, only the rear. of course an adjustable front would make alignment easier, but it is not necessary.
I've been running my AEV 2.5" on my sport unlimited for about a year and 10k miles with no troubles. only thing i added that wasn't supplied in the kit was an OME steering stabilizer and the geometry correction brackets. still running those dinky end link extensions shown in the pictures until i can anty up for a pair of jks quick discos lol.
2.5" lift is only going to shift the axle 3/8 or less.
Needed ? No but I like a stronger track bar.
