Amp Wiring Question

Where are you guys hooking up your wire that comes on with the key switch to power on the amp? I can't figure it out. Got everything hooked up but can't figure this one out. Any help is appreciated!

I saw on other threads that they hook up the amp power wire to the back of your 12v acc. Are cig lighter plug since it comes on with the key and the amp power dosent draw much. There are other ways but that seems to work fine.

That would have the amp on at all times, rather than just when the radio is on. If memory serves, the remote wire is the pink wire on the harness, but I would triple check that with a volt meter.

At best that would blow the fuse, at worst set your vehicle on fire. NEVER EVER run amplifier power to anywhere but the battery.

I was talking about the remote wire to turn on the amp not the main power wire

And the amp would not be on at all times if you use the one with the pic of the key on it. My jeep has two power outlets one hot all the time one only when key is on.

I meant the amp would be on all the time if the vehicle is running, regardless of the fact if the radio is on. The point of a remote wire is to turn the amp on/off when the radio turns on/off.

If you have an aftermarket radio go to the blue wire coming out of it. If you are talking a stock unit which you are using a line out converter then you can go to a fuse (not best idea)... I would and have went to the ignition and tied into the accessory wire. Go to the12volt.com to find out the color of it, test with multimeter or test light to ensure you have the correct one (cycle the key on and off starting also, it should show no power when cranking but 12v in accessory position and also when started).

I was talking about the power on wire for the amp and I was thinking about the cig lighter below the radio. It does come on and off with the key switch. As far as the amp being on all of the time regardless if the radio is on most likely will not happen with me. If I'm in the car the radio is on! LOL!

Does anyone know how to pull the cig light housing out so I can get to the wire or where the best place to access it? I don't use the port so it would be a perfect place to connect to.
Thanks guys!

As a former MECP installer, we would use a probing test light (like a blue point) and just probe the bundles under the dash for switched power, then t tap or solder if you got the knowledge.

I would also advise using a quality test light that is safe, preventing accidental air bag deployment. If you have one then it's quite simple, probe a wire and turn the key, if it's hot then you've found a suitable wire.
