another tire recommendation... thanks for your patience.

Hey guys -

As my family grew I sold my beloved 97 TJ 4.0 with a 5 inch lift, 33's, etc... to accommodate three kids instead of two.

I picked up a 2010 JK Unlim. Sport manual w/ only 10k miles on it from an old man.

My question - the only mod plans I have at this point are to put a four point frame mounted roof cage and yakima rack for my creek boats and skis.

The wrangler tires appear to have about 75% tread left. I'd like to lift it down the road but we're looking to relocate and buy a new house - so I'm pinching pennies.

Is it worth trading out the Goodyears for a better snow option? We live on top of a mountain. I once used my old jeep to pull a friends Discovery out of a ditch on our driveway.

I've read so many posts about larger tires on stock rims - can someone simplify the largest size tiresomeone would want to go with and be comfortable without modding at this point? ... without overspending with hopes of lifting and modding in a couple of years? Or a specific tire?

Or, should I just keep the Goodyear's and hope they climb in the snow like my old 33's?

Thanks guys. (and gals).

Very popular combo 33x12.5x15 Goodyear Duratrac (AT)
This tire is rated for snow and is a all around awesome tire.

This size can be run on the stock suspension.

If you want to run the stock wheels you will need spacers. I forget the equivalent to a 33x17

2007 Rubicon/Rock Krawler TR 2.5 coils/rear TB/Rancho 9000 31/32XL shocks/Teraflex monster TB/Synergy highsteer,tie rod, ball joints/Hankook MT 315-75-16 on Level 8 ZX's/MC front SB links/Rancho geo brackets & shocks/Fox ATS stabilizer/Adams front DS=Frankinlift from hell.

If you owned your TJ for a while you already have the knowledge to pick the best tire for your needs. Look at the JK as just a larger more refined version of your TJ.

As kjeeper10 notes the Duratracs are a very good all around and popular tire but I don't believe those were the stock tires on a Sport in '10. What Goodyear model does your JK have? What tires did you spin on your TJ?

Welcome to the JK world.

305/65/17. Like said, those would need spacers to prevent rubbing
