Anti Lock Brakes - in sand.. Off Switch?

I was at Anzo Borrego a couple weeks ago. Loved it!! But in the sand wash and similar terrain the Anti Lock Brakes are not your friend...

It there a safe way to turn them off and then back on agian?

My F800GS thas a switch, but it also only has 2 wheels

I have heard pull the fuse, but are there any issues with turning it back on?
Maybe a switch that would break the fuse circiut then I could just flip it like the bike... Thoughts?

This is my first Jeep product ever and I have 7000 fun miles. I shoulda did this a long time ago

There are four ways to turn off your ESP.
1. Shift into low range.
2. Press the ESP off button. (partial deactivation)
3. Press and hold the ESP off button for five seconds (more complete deactivation)
4. Do the hokey pokey routine that completely shuts it off. (Explained here) '07-Present Wrangler's Control System - ESP Off - Jp Magazine

I pressed the esp off, but I did not hold for 5 seconds.

Great link, thanks.... Hokey Pokey... awesome.

I think 4H and the ESP held for 5 seconds is my best option. However, it says that the ABS as "Fully active, off-road ABS".

Which is somehow different then just "Fully active". Anybody know what Off-Road ABS is about?

OFF-ROAD ABS

Have not seen this in any prior threads - this is per the 2008 Service Manual:

"Four-wheel-drive vehicles are equipped with Off-Road ABS. Off-Road ABS provides more sustained wheel lockup than normal ABS for improved stopping performance on plowable surfaces like loose dirt, gravel, sand and mud. Such plowable surfaces move out of the way as the tires roll on them and form a wedge in front of the tires during braking because more sustained wheel lock up causes the tires to drag and the loose surface to build up in front of the tires, helping to stop the vehicle. A vehicle with normal ABS requires a longer stopping distance on the same terrain because the wheels continue rotating, not allowing the drag and build up material in front of the tires. "

Electronic Stability Control - This can be quite confusing. From the 2011 Wrangler Owner's Manual:

Quote:
The ESC system has three available operating modes in
4H range. The system has one operating mode in 4L
range. Two-wheel drive vehicles and four-wheel drive
vehicles in 2H range have two operating modes.

4H Range (4WD Models) or 2WD Models
On
This is the normal operating mode for ESC in 4H and
2WD vehicles.
Partial Off
This mode is entered by momentarily pressing the ESC
OFF switch.
When in Partial Off mode, the TCS portion of ESC has
been disabled and the “ESC Activation/Malfunction
Indicator Light” will be illuminated.
All other stability features of ESC function normally. This
mode is intended to be used if the vehicle is in deep
snow, sand, or gravel conditions and more wheel spin
than ESC would normally allow is required to gain
traction. To turn ESC on again, momentarily press the
ESC OFF switch. This will restore the normal “ESC On”
mode of operation.
NOTE: To improve the vehicle’s traction when driving
with snow chains, or starting off in deep snow, sand, or
gravel, it may be desirable to switch to the “Partial Off”
mode by pressing the ESC OFF switch. Once the situation
requiring ESC to be switched to the “Partial Off” mode is
overcome, turn ESC back on by momentarily pressing the
ESC OFF switch. This may be done while the vehicle is in
motion.

4L Range (4WD Models)
ESC Off
This is the normal operating mode for ESC in 4L range.
Whenever the vehicle is started in 4L range, or the
transfer case (if equipped) is shifted from 4H range or
NEUTRAL to 4L range, the ESC system will be in this
mode. In 4L range, ESC and TCS, except for the “limited
slip” feature described in the TCS section, are turned off
until the vehicle reaches a speed of 40 mph (64 km/h). At
40 mph (64 km/h), the normal ESC stability function
returns but TCS remains off. When the vehicle speed
drops below 35 mph (56 km/h), the ESC system shuts off.
The ESC is off at low vehicle speeds in 4L range so that it
will not interfere with off-road driving, but the ESC
function returns to provide the stability feature at speeds
above 40 mph (64 km/h). The “ESC Activation/
Malfunction Indicator Light” will always be illuminated
in 4L range when ESC is off.
NOTE: The “ESC OFF” message will display and the
audible chime will sound when the shift lever is placed in
the PARK position from any position other than PARK,
and then moved out of the PARK position. This will
occur even if the message was previously cleared.


Disabling ESC For Modified Vehicles (4WD
Models Only)
Vehicles modified with larger tires and/or suspension
lifts may experience early ESC activations as compared to
a non-modified production vehicle depending on lift
size, tire size, suspension changes and/or driving habits.
If early ESC activations are experienced while driving a
modified vehicle, the additional ability to permanently
turn off ESC is available. A steering wheel/ESC button
maneuver must be performed to permanently disable
ESC and defeat the functionality of the ESC switch.
Repeating the procedure will return the system to normal
ESC operation and restore ESC switch functionality allowing
ESC “Partial” or “Off” modes.

The following procedure will disable (or re-enable) ESC
functionality in the vehicle:
1. Shift the transfer case into the 4H range position.
2. Turn the steering wheel until it is centered and the
wheels are pointed straight ahead.
3. Cycle the ignition key OFF to ON.
4. Wait approximately five seconds for the system bulb
check.
5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the
right (clockwise).
6. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and
hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).
8. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
9. Turn the steering wheel back to center.
10. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF.
After performing the ESC disable procedure correctly,
“ESC OFF” will be displayed in the odometer for approximately
12 seconds each time the ignition is moved
to ON. Repeating the ESC disable procedure will reenable
normal ESC operation.

Ok. Testing results. I did the 5 seconds off thing. There was a slight hesitation before the anyilock brakes kick in but it needs to have a much more dramtic effect. I actually want to skid to a stop.

I understand the ON stuff. Dont get me wrong, the ABS is awesome n a bike or a jeep. But No means No hahah and Off needs to be off. The F800GS is OFF when turned off. I like that. Need the ABS "Off" button too.

but the EPS 5 sec OFF is better than the momentary Off

Just needs a EPS 10 sec Off to go all the way off wiht the ABS.

Any other suggestions to get there?
