A few reasons. Less protected from elements. Less protected from theft. It's hotter in engine bay which is bad for the compressor. Air flow to it may have a lot of dust.
I like the idea of mounting it on top of the driver's wheel well.
Ditto. Have the CMM under the passenger seat. It's been there for probably 2 years with zero issues. I run the ARB twin. I use it to air four 37" Nittos from 7psi to 30 coming off the trail. I run it continuously there. The supplied wiring just barely fits.
I did not use the supplied ARB switch but I like it.
Instead, I used a micro switch from rat shack mounted in the rail of the *driver's* left seat rail. Works well.
I plan on installing a tank but right now I just slide the seat forward a few clicks and the fitting is easily accessible.
