I'm installing an ARB Compressor, no lockers, inflation duty only. I don't want to run the toggle switch through the firewall and cut into the dash. I'm going to install a spod within a year or so. Has anyone installed the toggle in the engine bay in a semi clean way? Looking for ideas. Thanks.
You can run wiring through that whole with foam no need to cut into anything. Or just put a toggle switch anywhere in the engine bay that it isn't immediately exposed to water and too much heat. I have my switch on the a pillar.
Mine's on the pillar. It's easy to reach regardless of if I'm in or out of the vehicle, and looks cool too.
If I were to put in in the engine bay, I'd consider mounting a small rectangular box somewhere near the compressor. I bet you could fit at least two switches on a single gang plastic electrical box from the hardware store. Get a flat plastic plate with a rubber gasket (normally for electrical junctions placed outdoors) and cut some holes to mount the switch. Slap on some hot glue to further water proof, and you can still splash puddles without much worry.
I have mine zip tied along with the extra unused cables in the engine bay. Same situation here, I don't want to cut up the dash and the switch is more accessible when it's right next to the hose plug. No reason to have to get back into the Jeep to turn it on.
lol i suppose so. I usually put the hose in and THEN turn it on, but I guess it doesn't matter.
Also, if I had an SPOD, I would move the switch to the cab. Honestly, once I do lights, i'm going to bite the bullet and SPOD it I think. With the winch, ARB and lights, I'd prefer not to have switches in various different places around the Jeep.
